The Winnipeg Jets will look to return to the wins column by topping the Buffalo Sabres at Canada Life Centre on Friday, December 5.

My top Sabres vs. Jets predictions and NHL picks are calling for Winnipeg to batten down the defensive hatches and lead the way in this game going Under the number tonight.

Sabres vs Jets prediction

Sabres vs Jets Best bet: Under 6.5 (-111)

The Winnipeg Jets return home after going 1-3-1 on a five-game road trip that included being whitewashed by the Buffalo Sabres 5-1 on Monday.

Buffalo is playing sneaky well, too.

While the Sabres are rolling along a modest 6-4 stretch, they’ve posted a fifth-ranked Corsi For percentage and fourth-ranked expected goals percentage at 5-on-5 during the run.

Those underlying numbers have helped Buffalo hit the Under in five of the past six games, and Winnipeg has been anything but an offensive juggernaut with the third fewest expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 this season.

The Jets have also played to the Under in three of their past four games, and I’m expecting a low-scoring result tonight at Canada Life Centre.

Winnipeg doesn’t have the offensive firepower to go blow-for-blow in high-event games, and attention to defensive detail has been the route to success, so look for the Jets to batten down the defensive hatches with the last-change advantage on home ice tonight.

Sabres vs Jets same-game parlay

Jets No. 1 center Mark Scheifele has picked up an assist in 11 of his past 19 games for 17 total, and he’s also a key setup man on the No. 1 power-play unit.

Even with the highlighted recent run of strong defensive play from the Sabres, Buffalo has still allowed the seventh-most goals per game (3.41).

The final leg of this same-game parlay turns to Winnipeg winger Kyle Connor, and he’s been a consistent shooter for Winnipeg as he paces the club in both shots and attempts.

Again, while the Sabres have shown recent improvements in their own end, they’ve still allowed the sixth-most shots per game (30.3).

Sabres vs Jets SGP
