The Vancouver Canucks will look to make it consecutive wins at the Rogers Arena by topping the visiting Detroit Red Wings on Monday, December 8.

Vancouver winger Evander Kane headlines my top Red Wings vs. Canucks predictions and NHL picks for tonight's nightcap on the ice.

Red Wings vs Canucks prediction

Red Wings vs Canucks Best bet: Evander Kane Over 2.5 shots on goal (+125)

There has been a huge dip in Vancouver Canucks winger Evander Kane’s shot volume recently, with him putting up just 12 shots on 48 attempts across his past nine games for 4.74 shots and 18.97 attempts per 60 minutes.

Kane posted respective 10.74 and 20.24 per 60 marks through his first 19 games of the campaign, and converting just 25% of his attempts into shots during the highlighted nine-game stretch is unsustainable after posting a 53% conversion rate to start the year.

Additionally, the veteran paces Vancouver forwards in Corsi For percentage at 5-on-5 and ranks in the 91st percentile of NHL forwards in overall shots on goal.

This isn’t a dream matchup, with the Detroit Red Wings allowing the 11th-fewest shots per game (27.0), but Vancouver will have the last-change advantage on home ice, and so Kane should see multiple favorable in-game matchups.

Finally, his shot volume also climbs at the Rogers Arena, with Kane recording 3.33 shots per game and 11.4 per 60 minutes at home compared to just 1.88 and 6.93 on the highway.

Red Wings vs Canucks same-game parlay

The Red Wings have been playing in high-event, high-scoring games, hitting the Over in seven of their past eight with a league-high average of 7.8 total goals. It’s not the recipe for success, and Detroit sporting an .885 team save percentage at 5-on-5 during the stretch is unsustainably low.

Detroit head coach Todd McLellan will preach improved attention to defensive detail, and the Red Wings will play a more conservative game.

As a result, look for the Canucks to hang around and play the Wings close on home ice. Vancouver is also coming off a statement 4-2 win over the scorching hot Minnesota Wild on Saturday.
