Connor McDavid's shooting percentage is uncharacteristically low, and the Oil captain will correct that against Vancouver.

Connor McDavid said he wanted to score more goals this season. While that's not been the case out of the gate, it’s certainly not due to a lack of opportunity.

My Oilers vs. Canucks predictions bank on the league’s best player finding his footing against a struggling defense. Let’s break it down with my NHL picks for October 26.

Oilers vs Canucks prediction

Oilers vs Canucks Best bet: Connor McDavid anytime goalscorer (+135)

Connor McDavid has averaged more than one goal per 60 minutes every single year of his career — even in seasons he failed to generate more than 1.0 expected goals per 60.

He’s generating 1.02 expected goals per 60 minutes this season, but that’s translated to just 0.28 actual goals per 60 through nine games.

In total, McDavid has produced 3.6 expected goals but has found the back of the net once. He is getting chances but just hasn’t capitalized on them.

McDavid has converted on 4% of his shots on goal this year. His career average is 14.9%, and his worst-ever shooting percentage was 11.9% — nearly triple his current output.

Unless the best player in the world forgot how to shoot the puck overnight, we should expect the 28-year-old’s fortunes to turn in a big way.

A date with the Vancouver Canucks could be just what the doctor ordered. Only five teams have conceded more shots per game, and a lot of the volume is coming from centers.

Oilers vs Canucks same-game parlay

Evan Bouchard is heating up. The star offensive blueliner has picked up points in three consecutive games after starting the year with six consecutive zeros.

He still only has assists in 22% of his contests, a stark contrast from the 51% hit rate he posted a year ago. The floodgates should open, and given his correlation to McDavid, Bouchard is a nice target in this spot.

Quinn Hughes has gone Under his shot total in six of nine games this season and finished with zero against the Edmonton Oilers just a couple of weeks ago. They're excellent at limiting shots to defensemen, giving up less volume than all but the Capitals.

Oilers vs Canucks SGP

  • Connor McDavid anytime goalscorer
  • Evan Bouchard Over 0.5 assists
  • Quinn Hughes Under 2.5 shots
