Oilers vs Blue Jackets Prediction, Picks & Same-Game Parlay for Tonight’s NHL Game

While the Oilers have prolific scorers at the top of their depth chart, it only goes so far, and Edmonton is relying more and more on tight defense to win games. This is why we like the Under tonight vs. the Blue Jackets.

The Edmonton Oilers will look to make it three straight wins by topping the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, November 13.

My top Oilers vs. Blue Jackets predictions and NHL picks are calling for Edmonton to continue playing a stingy brand of hockey and lead the way toward this game going Under the number tonight.

Oilers vs Blue Jackets prediction

Oilers vs Blue Jackets Best bet: Under 6.5 (-105)

The Edmonton Oilers turned in a tidy 2-1 overtime win while holding the Philadelphia Flyers to just 2.28 expected goals and 21 shots on Wednesday, and I’m expecting another tight defensive game from the Oilers tonight.

Edmonton lacks the secondary scoring to go head-to-head with opponents, so paying particular attention to defensive detail is its current recipe for success.

Superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl can provide enough scoring to eke out wins, as long as the Oilers aren’t consistently playing in high-event, back-and-forth games.

Additionally, we’re beginning to see the Oilers returning to the 5-on-5 game that paved the way to consecutive Western Conference championships.

Edmonton sports a 10th-ranked Corsi For percentage and 12th-ranked expected goals percentage at 5-on-5 across the past 10 games, with the glaring shortcoming being a league-low PDO during the stretch.

Some of the poor scoring luck can be chalked up to the lackluster supporting cast, but the .866 team save percentage is also a huge anchor.

I’m expecting Edmonton backup Calvin Pickard to begin turning the corner. He posted a respectable .903 save percentage and 2.61 GAA across 59 appearances during his first two seasons with the Oil, so his current .836 and 4.00 marks through six games are set for statistical correction.

Oilers vs Blue Jackets same-game parlay

The Oilers have started slowly for a third consecutive season, and this will also be the second straight year with major offseason roster turnover. It’s incredibly difficult to drive possession and generate more expected goals than your opponent at 5-on-5 and sport the lowest PDO in the league, so I expect Edmonton will string more wins together – especially if the Oil continue to tighten up defensively.

McDavid has picked up an assist in four of his past six games, and he’s up to 18 through 18 games. Of course, No. 97 also entered the year with the highest assists per 60 minutes in the league over the prior three seasons.
