Matthew Tkachuk started the playoffs hot with a three-point game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round, including two goals for the power forward. However, after scoring the Panthers’ lone goal in Game 3, he went 10 games without finding the back of the net.
Tkachuk went to the dirty area in front of the net to tap home a pass from Carter Verhaeghe in Game 2, and it looks like he might be ramping things up a bit after missing quite some time with a groin injury.
The Panthers will be without scoring winger Sam Reinhart for at least Game 3 after he suffered a lower-body injury in Game 2. Tkachuk is sticking on his second line with Sam Bennett and Verhaeghe while Jesper Boqvist moves up with Aleksander Barkov and Evan Rodrigues.
With the Florida Panthers back on home ice, head coach Paul Maurice should look for more offensive opportunities for Tkachuk’s line. He is also a big part of the Panthers’ top power-play unit, which could utilize him more with Reinhart out.

Tkachuk is used to driving the net and getting tips and rebounds in front. He’s had multiple shots on goal in half of his 14 playoff games thus far, including in Game 2 against the Hurricanes.
The Panthers have absolutely dominated the Hurricanes through two games with a 10-2 goal differential and now return home where they’re 30-14-2 overall this season. Meanwhile, Carolina is 19-22-5 on the road and the Canes haven’t looked like themselves against this experienced Panthers team.
Finally, the Hurricanes are turning to Pyotr Kochetkov in goal tonight. He had an .897 save percentage this season and has allowed six goals on 55 shots (.891 SV%) in three playoff appearances this year.
