We have five games in the betting slate today, including a divisional matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings.

Toronto's offense has come alive in its last two games, in particular Matthew Knies which is why he's the subject of my Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings predictions.

Find out why with my free NHL picks for this Sunday, December 28.

Maple Leafs vs Red Wings prediction

Maple Leafs vs Red Wings best bet: Matthew Knies Over 0.5 points (-135)

The Detroit Red Wings were tagged with a 5-2 loss to Carolina coming out of the holiday break. Meanwhile, the Toronto Maple Leafs won a 7-5 thriller against the Ottawa Senators.

The Leafs' offense came alive in that game, and it was largely due to Toronto's top line resurgence.

Auston Matthews looked great, but so did Matthew Knies, whose point total is set at 0.5 points and is paying a much better price to go Over at -135.

The 23-year-old winger had a breakout game after going goalless in nine-straight heading into the break. He finished the game with two goals and a helper while registering six shots on goal.

Knies now has points in back-to-back games and seems to be playing with confidence again.

He also had a two-point game in the last meeting between the Leafs and Red Wings.

As for Detroit, they’ve given up 3.21 goals per game with just the 17th-ranked penalty kill, leaving plenty of opportunity for Toronto to score and Knies to get on the board.

Maple Leafs vs Red Wings same-game parlay

I'll continue betting on the Leafs’ top line and take Auston Matthews to go 3.5 shots on goal. He looked like his old dominant self in his first game back from the holiday break with an eight-shot, three-point performance. I expect him to continue that dominance today.

I’ll also take Over 6.5 goals. Both teams are in the second leg of a back-to-back, and have played in a lot of high-scoring games this season. With the Over going 42-28-6. We’ve also seen an average of 6.8 goals per game in the last five games between these two teams.
