Just one game on the NHL betting slate tonight, and it’s a matchup featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Columbus has won four of their last five games to climb out of a rut, but the penalty kill remains an issue for them. Therefore, the Leafs' power play points market is what I’ll be targeting tonight for my Toronto Maple Leafs predictions.

Find out why with my free NHL picks for this October 29 matchup between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Maple Leafs vs Blue Jackets prediction

Maple Leafs vs Blue Jackets Best bet: Matthew Knies Over 0.5 power play points (+265)

The Toronto Maple Leafs make their way south of the border tonight for a game against the pesky Columbus Blue Jackets

Both teams are coming off a back-to-back, as all 32 teams played last night. I expect some sloppy play and a penalty-filled contest.

This is where I expect the Leafs to strike.

It’s been a slow start for Toronto’s power play, which is operating at just 14% to this point in the year, but it seems to be improving. They’ve scored a PPG in four of their last six games, including last night in the Leafs’ win against the Flames.

Meanwhile, the Jackets' penalty kill this season has been abysmal. It ranks 31st in the league with a 63.3% kill rate, while allowing 33.85 high-danger chances per 60 minutes of PK time. That’s the fourth-worst in the NHL.

Despite a lowly 14% PP rating, the Leafs rank 8th in high-danger chances and 4th in total scoring chances while on the man-advantage. Perhaps, a weak PK opponent may be exactly what they need to gain the confidence back and find that finishing touch on the PP.

I’ve elected to make Matthew Knies’ power play prop my best bet of the night at +265. The value is there, and Knies leads the team in individual expected-goals on the PP, while leading all forwards in shots, scoring chances, and high-danger chances on the man-advantage.

Maple Leafs vs Blue Jackets same-game parlay

I’ll add Matthew Knies O 1.5 shots to my SGP. It’s a near-automatic bet for me until they raise his total. It’s a number he’s passed in 8-of-10 games this season already.

I’ll add an anytime goal from Auston Matthews as the final leg of my SGP. He’s due for a big night, and this matchup usually brings out the best in him. He’s scored in nine of the last 10 meetings between the Leafs and Blue Jackets, netting 12 total goals in that span.

Maple Leafs vs Blue Jackets SGP

  • Knies Over 1.5 shots
