The Colorado Avalanche have steamrolled through opponents all season, but that hasn’t stopped them from playing in their share of lower-scoring games.

Seven of their past nine have gone Under the total, and my Avalanche vs. Predators predictions expect that trend to continue Tuesday night.

Let’s break down my NHL picks for Tuesday. December 9.

Avalanche vs Predators prediction

Avalanche vs Predators Best bet: Under 6.5 (-135)

The Colorado Avalanche are known for their speed, skill, and ability to fill the net, but their play without the puck is also top-tier.

They have allowed just over 26 shots on goal per game this season and have kept the puck out better than anybody, conceding just 2.17 goals per game.

Excluding the shootout, they have held opponents to two goals or fewer in seven of their past eight games.

The Avalanche are playing their fourth road game in six nights, so they may not have the juice to play a high-event, run-and-gun style.

They’re more likely to rely on structure and the goaltending of Scott Wedgewood, who owns a .925 save percentage on the season.

Conversely, the Nashville Predators have defended a lot better of late. At 5-on-5, they rank Top-10 in shot suppression and expected goals against over their past 10 games.

These two teams did meet during this run of improved defensive play for the Predators. That contest featured just three goals, two of which came with the net empty.

Expect another relatively low-scoring game featuring the Avalanche, who’ve quietly played to the Under in seven of their last nine.
