The Colorado Avalanche look to build upon the best record in hockey as they travel to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Blackhawks tonight.

Each of Colorado’s past five wins has come by at least a two-goal margin, and my Avalanche vs. Blackhawks predictions and NHL picks expect that trend to continue.

Avalanche vs Blackhawks prediction

Avalanche vs Blackhawks Best bet: Avalanche -1.5 (+105)

While the Chicago Blackhawks have elevated their play this season, these two teams are on completely different levels. The Colorado Avalanche are the superior team both offensively and defensively.

The Avalanche outrank the Blackhawks in both goals scored per game and goals allowed per game. In fact, Colorado ranks first in each category as it continues to dominate the league with just one regulation loss through its first 21 games.

The analytics suggest that this trend is likely to continue. Entering this matchup, the Avs rank first in both expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60) and expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).

By comparison, the Hawks rank 25th and 26th in those respective categories. The reason Chicago remains in good standing is its goaltending, but the Avalanche counter with Scott Wedgewood.

Through 16 starts this season, Wedgewood is 12-1-2 with a .913 SV% and 2.23 GAA. That success is likely to continue against the Hawks, a team Wedgewood is 4-1 against over the past six meetings with a .921 SV% and 1.79 GAA.

Avalanche vs Blackhawks same-game parlay

There may not be a better candidate than Nathan MacKinnon to produce in this game. He leads the league in scoring and has registered seven goals over his past seven games.

There’s also a strong correlation with Gabriel Landeskog recording an assist, given he skates alongside MacKinnon on the first line and has assisted on his latest goal.
