The Oklahoma City Thunder will look to win 16 of their first 17 home games when they host the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, December 29.
The Hawks have dropped six straight, and they enter this one as massive 16.5-point underdogs in the NBA odds.
My Hawks vs. Thunder predictions and free NBA picks expect the Thunder to continue laying waste to all the teams in the league not named the San Antonio Spurs.
Hawks vs Thunder prediction
Hawks vs Thunder best bet: Thunder -16.5 (-110)
Since a blistering 24-1 start, the Oklahoma City Thunder have gone 3-4 over their last seven.
While that looks like a slump, it’s more that OKC has run into what might be its current kryptonite in the San Antonio Spurs, who have handed the Thunder three of those four losses.
But without the Spurs to worry about, it was business as usual Sunday, as OKC dismantled the 76ers 129-104.
The Thunder have an absurd plus-14.3 point differential and have won by double digits in 12 of their last 15 wins.
A little deeper into those numbers, and the last six wins have been by at least 16 points.
But the Thunder are far from one-dimensional. They boast the NBA’s top scoring defense, allowing just 107.3 points per game. No other team in the league is even below 110.
The Atlanta Hawks have dropped six straight and can’t defend anyone, allowing an NBA-worst 131.8 points per game over that skid, with teams shooting 51.3% from the field and 39.2% from 3-point range.
They’re also not near healthy. Trae Young (quad) is questionable, while forward Jalen Johnson (illness) has already been ruled out, as has big man Kristaps Porzingis (illness).
The Thunder have dominated this head-to-head of late, winning three straight, all by at least 16 points. They have just one loss at home in 16 games, and are a crisp 10-6-0 against the spread in their own gym.
Look for them to make quick work of a depleted Atlanta side.
