NBA Picks and Predictions for January 20

The Kings can't stop anybody so far this season, so counting on them to cool off Paul George (51 percent from long range) is asking a lot.

NBA Picks for Today

Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers

Ben Simmons still may not have found a 3-point shot, but there is no doubt he has been an integral part of the Philadelphia 76ers' success this season. The Sixers are 9-5 and 7-1 at home, and they’ll look to improve on that record when they take on Atlantic Division rival the Boston Celtics.

One reason Simmons hasn’t needed to find a 3-pointer is that the 76ers just brought in other shooters to create space around him and All-NBA center Joel Embiid. (Crazy idea, I know). But that (and not getting traded) has really allowed Simmons to relax and just play his game, which is creating an opportunity for bettors.

While Simmons’ scoring is down this season, he is contributing with 9.3 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game. Those numbers have been up the last several weeks, which makes his rebounding plus assists prop of 16.5 ripe for the picking.

Simmons has averaged 18.4 rebounds and assists over the last nine games, which includes an outlier game against the Nets where he just had six. Otherwise, he has gone over 16.5 seven times in the remaining eight games. Simmons should do enough in this matchup to get over this number.

PREDICTION: Ben Simmons Over 16.5 Rebounds + Assists (-105)

Miami Heat vs Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat – two East powerhouses from a season ago - are looking to rebound from slow starts and build some momentum when they face off Wednesday. The Raptors are 5-8, but have won three in a row, while the Heat are 5-7 and just ended a three-game losing streak.

One of the reasons for the Raptors' turnaround has been their transition to a smaller lineup, and that has created more rebounding opportunities for savvy veteran Kyle Lowry. The all-star point guard has been cleaning up the glass with the Raps' new rotations.

Lowry is averaging 6.3 rebounds for the season, but it gets better than that. Sportsbooks haven’t adjusted yet. Lowry’s rebounding total for this game is 5.5 and he has gone over that number nine times in his last 10 games, averaging 7.4 boards per game during that stretch.

Miami is a solid rebounding team, but rank a middle-of-the-pack 17th in rebounding percentage. Until books make the adjustment, we’re going to hammer the Over on Lowry’s rebounding prop.

PREDICTION: Kyle Lowry Over 5.5 Rebounds (-105)

Sacramento Kings vs Los Angeles Clippers

While the Lakers get all the love in Los Angeles, the Clippers would like you to know they’re still around too. L.A.'s Other Team has put on a show, winning four straight games, and dropping 129 points in three of those four contests. That offense will look to stay hot when they go up against the worst defense in the NBA – the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings are bad at a lot of things when it comes to defense. They rank last in defensive rating, defensive efficiency, scoring defense and opponent field goal percentage just to name a few. They faced the Clippers just back on Jan. 15 and lost that matchup 138-100. Not good.

As expected, a lot of the Clippers team and player props are elevated for this matchup, but we think we’ve found an opening: Paul George made threes.

George has been unconscious from 3-point range this season. The All-star forward is shooting a ridiculous 51 percent from long range on 7.8 attempts per game. George’s made threes prop is at 3.5, a number which he has gone over in 10 of his 13 games this season, including a 4-8 performance last time he faced the Kings, who of course rank dead last in opponent 3-point shooting percentage.

PREDICTION: Paul George Over 3.5 Made Threes (-120)
