Mets vs Tigers Prediction, Picks & Odds — Wednesday, September 3

Clay Holmes doesn't pitch super deep into his starts, but he's been effective and has received a ton of run support. The Mets will give him a boost again today against struggling Tigers SP Casey Mize.

The New York Mets will be looking to complete the sweep against the Detroit Tigers this afternoon in the rubber match at Comerica Park.

New York typically provides Clay Holmes with run support, and my Mets vs Tigers predictions expect that trend to continue.

Mets vs Tigers prediction

Mets vs Tigers best bet: Mets moneyline (-125)

The New York Mets are rolling, especially offensively. After dropping two out of three to the Miami Marlins, Carlos Mendoza’s ball club has responded with a couple of loud wins against a very solid Detroit Tigers team. The Mets won 10-8 in the opener, then 12-5 on Tuesday.

Clay Holmes is on the hill for NY today, and he’s allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last three starts. Also, the Mets have won three of the last four games when he’s taken on the mound.

On the other side, it’s Casey Mize on the bump. He’s struggled after a solid first half, posting a 6.32 ERA in July and a 5.81 ERA in August.

Mize gave up five earned runs last time out, and he comes up against a surging Mets lineup that is hitting everything right now. Holmes is reliable, and he has a 3.37 ERA on the road. I’ll take New York to bring out the brooms at Comerica Park.

Mets vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

Mets moneyline

Clay Holmes Under 2.5 earned runs

Juan Soto Over 1.5 total bases

Pete Alonso Over 0.5 hits

I’m going all Mets for my SGP, but it’s hard not to when they’re playing this well. Holmes has cashed the Under in earned runs allowed in three consecutive starts and has only surrendered Over 2.5 earned runs once in his last five.

As for Juan Soto, he is absolutely raking. The slugger just went deep in back-to-back games and has cashed the Over in total bases in four of five. Those were all multi-hit performances.

Pete Alonso just smacked two home runs in Tuesday’s victory, and he’s cashed the Over in hits in seven of his previous nine contests. Alonso is hitting .285 against righties and has two hits in three at-bats versus Mize.
