Dodgers vs Mets Picks and Predictions: LA's Lineup Should Feast On Megill

Los Angeles couldn't sweep the Phillies, but it gets another crack at an NL East sweep this weekend against the Mets. With one of their top arms on the mound and an explosive lineup facing a struggling New York righty, we're leaning Dodger Blue tonight.

Dodgers vs Mets betting preview

Starting pitchers

Julio Urias (13-3, 3.41 ERA): The Dodgers have won in each of Urias’ last two trips to the mound, with the lefty pitching only five innings in those games. Urias has now given up only four earned runs over his last four outings, and the lefty now faces a Mets team that hasn’t been very good offensively as of late. One thing to keep an eye on here is Urias’ control: He walked three batters against the Los Angeles Angels in his last start — only the third time in 23 starts that he has issued more than two free passes in an outing.

Tylor Megill (1-2, 3.20 ERA): Megill has given up eight earned runs in his last 9 2-3 innings of work, and the Mets have (unsurprisingly) lost in each of his last two trips to the mound. Megill has pitched pretty well since becoming a part of this rotation but the righty is starting to struggle a bit now, although it is worth noting that he has a 1.85 ERA in five home starts this season.

Moneyline pick

The Dodgers are missing Mookie Betts but their lineup is absolutely loaded and getting them at this price really feels like a steal.

Only three teams in the league have scored more runs against right-handed pitching than Los Angeles this season, and Megill also happens to be struggling coming into this one. We might even have a Cody Bellinger sighting in this game! The 2019 NL MVP has really had a lousy season, hitting .180 with nine home runs in 56 games, but he's hitting .286 in August and has four homers over his last five games.

Urias is also in a prime position to turn in a good start here. The lefty has a 10-2 record on the road, and a 3.02 ERA when pitching away from Dodger Stadium. That’s actually a better mark than his home ERA of 3.86, plus only two teams in baseball have scored fewer runs against southpaws than the Mets this year.

As mentioned earlier, the only thing to worry about is the walks with Urias. He walked three batters in his last start and the Mets have the fifth-highest walk rate in the league against lefties.

PREDICTION: Dodgers (-146)

Over/Under pick

Urias has been excellent when pitching on the road this season, but he’s not exactly perfect. The lefty is more than capable of making a mistake or two in this game, and the Mets happen to have the 13th-highest BABIP against southpaws this season.

That means that New York is a bit better than the numbers suggest against lefties, as the team actually makes decent contact against them. That’s not to say that the Mets will put up a big number here, but they could score three or four runs in this game.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers have one of the most explosive lineups in baseball and they have plenty of guys that will be looking to take advantage of a young pitcher tonight. Overall, this seems like a great value on the Over.

PREDICTION: Over 9 (+100)
