The New York Rangers announced Thursday morning that Polymarket was named the team’s official prediction market partner.

Key Takeaways

  • Polymarket was recently promoted at Madison Square Garden during The Garden Cup.

  • The platform will gain exclusive promotional opportunities in the arena and on television broadcasts.

  • The NHL signed U.S.-only partnerships with Kalshi and Polymarket in October.

Polymarket will be highlighted during Rangers games at Madison Square Garden. That includes its logo being displayed on LED signage, contests on the ice, in-arena activations, and “digitally-enhanced dasherboard signage” during local and national television broadcasts.

Polymarket will also be the presenting partner of one of the Rangers’ Centennial Theme nights, created to honor the team’s 100th season.

“This is a landmark partnership for the Rangers in this new and exciting category, and Polymarket is the perfect fit as one of the most reliable and forward-thinking prediction market operators,” said Jamaal Lesane, chief operating officer of MSG Sports. “Polymarket becomes not just an Official Partner of the Rangers, but they will also be involved across digital channels, fan activations and promotions at Rangers games.”

Shayne Coplan, the founder and CEO of Polymarket, applauded the Rangers for their fan base and the environment during the team's games.

He also said prediction markets will offer a new layer of involvement and engagement to fans in the arena and at home.

“The Rangers have one of the most dedicated fanbases in sports, and this partnership introduces a new, dynamic layer of engagement to the fan experience,” said Coplan. “Prediction markets offer fans a real-time, interactive way to connect with the game, and the Rangers are an ideal franchise to bring this experience to a broader audience.”

Polymarket grows presence

While the partnership will unlock multiple opportunities for Polymarket, the platform has already announced its presence inside Madison Square Garden.

The popular prediction platform was an official partner of The Garden Cup, a Dec. 8 tennis event that included exhibition matches featuring Naomi Osaka, Aryna Sabalenka, Nick Kyrgios, and Tommy Paul.

Polymarket’s brand was featured in on-court signage, GardenVision, and social media posts, and the company held an activation event on the concourse.

Moving forward, Rangers’ games on MSG Networks will showcase Polymarket as a presenting partner of “In-Game Polls.”

Individuals walking near the arena will also be able to see the company’s logo on signage boards visible from the outside.

Second to the punch

While the announcement labeled Polymarket “the world’s largest prediction market,” it did not call Polymarket the first to partner with an NHL team.

The Chicago Blackhawks in late December became the first professional U.S. sports club to partner with a prediction platform - in their case, Kalshi.

The NHL in October signed U.S.-only partnerships with Kalshi and Polymarket, helping to grow and legitimize the presence of prediction platforms - an alternative to sports betting - in the country.
