A Massachusetts lottery player won a record $4 million using a scratch-off ticket ordered on Jackpocket.
The win, confirmed in a Jackpocket company announcement, said that the record-setting prize was claimed for a “$4,000,000 Monopoly Doubler” game.
Key Takeaways
- The lucky customer beat 1 in 3,780,000 odds to claim the prize
- 67 Jackpocket customers have won prizes of more than $1 million
- Jackpocket was previously banned in Texas after customers purchased lottery tickets in bulk
Jackpocket is a digital lottery courier service that allows its customers to purchase state and national lottery tickets online. The company was acquired by DraftKings for $750 million in 2024.
Seventeen states, including Massachusetts, authorize Jackpocket and other online lottery sites. That’s good news for the record winner, who overcame ridiculous 1 in 3,780,000 odds to win the $4 million grand prize on Tuesday.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate this win, which marks the largest scratch ticket prize ever won using Jackpocket,” said Pete Sullivan, DraftKings’ Senior Vice President of Lottery.
“It’s an exciting milestone for our company and a testament to the enthusiasm our customers have shown for the scratch ticket feature, which offers another seamless way to participate in the lottery.”
Jackpocket customers have won more than $900 million in lottery prizes since the company’s inception in 2013.
Sixty-seven customers have won more than $1 million from tickets purchased using Jackpocket.
Spreading its presence
Jackpocket was the first third-party lottery app to be licensed in the U.S. Users can purchase scratchers, Powerball entries, or state lottery tickets, and send someone to acquire the ticket.
According to Jackpocket’s announcement, customers in Arizona, Colorado, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, and Oregon can purchase state lottery scratch tickets on Jackpocket and then scratch them digitally.
Winning customers can receive up to $600 instantly in their Jackpocket account. Individuals who win more than $600 – say, $4 million – will have arrangements made so they can receive their ticket to claim the prize from the state lottery.
Controversy over lottery couriers
While sports betting has been at the center of the gambling industry’s recent boom, other avenues such as the lottery and iGaming have not received the same amount of attention.
According to Jackpocket’s announcement, the company “is on a mission to create a more convenient, fun, and responsible way to take part in the lottery.”
The list of states in which it is operational includes: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Washington D.C., and West Virginia.
The company operated in Texas but was effectively banned amid controversy involving the state lottery. Gov. Greg Abbott ordered an investigation after customers won $95 million and $83.5 million jackpots by purchasing tickets in bulk from online couriers, including Jackpocket.
“Despite our proven track record of compliance and commitment to responsible gaming, the Texas Lottery Commission has issued a new policy prohibiting our services, effective immediately. As a result, we are suspending lottery courier operations in Texas,” a DraftKings spokesperson said in a statement.
“We remain dedicated to working with policymakers to ensure access to secure lottery options and working with the Texas Lottery Commission to craft regulations that would allow lottery courier services to continue in Texas.”
