Coolbet is exiting the soon-to-be regulated gaming province of Alberta.

Key Takeaways

  • The online operator will end its sportsbook and casino offerings July 12.

  • Customers have until Aug. 31 to withdraw all funds.

  • World Cup future wagers will be settled normally.

Licensed sportsbooks and online casinos are launching in the province July 13, and Coolbet will cease offering its gaming products July 12. The operator has not announced plans to pursue a license.

The online sportsbook and casino alerted customers Monday that it's no longer taking deposits or new registrations. It also ceased offering bonuses and promotions.

Current users can still access their accounts and have until Aug. 31 to withdraw their balance. Customers will not be able to log in starting Sept. 1.

“We strongly encourage you to withdraw your funds as soon as possible,” Coolbet said to customers. “Any bonus funds will be fully unlocked from wagering requirements on July 6th, and you will be able to withdraw your remaining balance.”

Any bet that hasn’t been settled by July 12 will be voided and refunded, including parlays. Any legs in a combo bet that are undecided will be voided and odds set to 1.00, the operator said.

This does not apply to World Cup wagers. Those wagers, including futures bets, will be settled normally. The event’s final is scheduled for July 19.

Alberta will be flooded by licensed operators after next week’s launch, including big U.S. brands like FanDuel and DraftKings, which have found success in Ontario as well. The province aims to bring 70% of the gaming market under regulation by the end of the year.

Another Canadian market departure

Coolbet has been operating in Canada’s “grey” market for several years, and the operator has struck marketing partnerships with the PGA of Canada and Olympic medalist Andre De Grasse.

However, this is the second regulated Canadian market that Coolbet has exited. The operator left Ontario in April 2023, a year after the province launched regulated gaming, citing competition from promo-heavy operators and a lack of a profitability path.

GAN Ltd. owned Coolbet at that time, but the parent company was purchased by Japanese conglomerate Sega Sammy Holdings in May 2025. The Estonia-based Coolbet also holds gaming licenses in Sweden and Malta.
