Canadian Sportsbook Braces Itself to Pay ‘Thousands’ of Blue Jays Backers

A Toronto World Series victory would lead to major payouts at BET99, and set up a ton of futures liability in the form of big parlays as well.

A Canadian sportsbook is set to pay out “thousands” of Blue Jays bettors if Toronto can close out the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series this weekend.

Key Takeaways

  • BET99 says the Blue Jays’ big odds to win the World Series only got “nibbles.”

  • Toronto is getting the majority of tickets and money at the Ontario sportsbook.

  • BetMGM is hoping for a Game 7.

Heading into Friday night’s Game 6, with the Blue Jays up 3-2 in the series and playing at home, BET99 recapped where the operator stands in the liability department.

“Our most patient players who snagged the Jays to win the World Series the day after last year’s final are on the cusp of a major payday at +7,500,” BET99 manager Cliff Adelman told Covers on Friday. “Thankfully for the book, those were just small nibbles. The four-figure bets didn’t start rolling in until mid-summer, when Toronto had shortened (the odds) to +1,800.”

Adelman added that there are no big parlay tickets open that have Toronto as the final, winning leg, but there are some tied to next year.

“A Toronto championship would set up plenty of futures liability if other fan-favorite selections like the Baltimore Ravens, Toronto Maple Leafs, or Edmonton Oilers come through later this year,” Adelman said. “We’re happy not to worry about those until 2026!”

Toronto’s time?

The Blue Jays became a “massive liability” for BET99 when they went from an unknown contender to closing in on their third World Series title after Wednesday’s 6-1 victory over Los Angeles. Toronto took two of the three California games after splitting the first two at home.

Favored for the first time in 2025 with odds of -250 to close out the World Series at home, the Blue Jays are a +130 underdog at BET99.

“As for Game 6 splits, about 70% of the handle and 80% of tickets are on the Jays, with the total (7.5 runs) drawing a more balanced split,” Adelman said. “Only 57% of players are leaning to the over, expecting another tight, low-scoring affair. And with Game 6 (and potentially Game 7) carrying such cultural significance across Canada, we’ve decided to let the chips fall where they may and offer a vig-free line, currently priced at -130 / +130. Jays fans will find our odds among the most competitive anywhere.”

Cultural difference

At BetMGM, a predominantly U.S. sportsbook, posted a much bigger difference in vig for Game 6, listing the Blue Jays at -110, with the Dodgers at -130. The online operator reported Friday morning that 65% of the bets are on Toronto, but 59% of the money is backing L.A. to force a Game 7.

“Before the World Series began, the Blue Jays winning it all was a good outcome for the sportsbook,” BetMGM trading manager Seamus Magee said. “Toronto is still the preferred winner, but we wouldn't mind seeing a Game 7.”

Usual suspects

Expectedly, BET99 reported that there’s been “one-way traffic on the usual suspects” to record a hit in the Ontario operator’s market. Toronto star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is getting 99% of the bets to go over 0.5 hits with odds of -260.

Teammates Ernie Clement (-175), Addison Barger (-120), and Bo Bichette (-260) have taken 100% of the tickets to get a hit on Friday night. Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is at 96%.

“We’re seeing many players choose to bundle them together in (same-game parlays), Adelman said.

At BetMGM, Guerrero to hit a home run with odds of +400 is the most-bet player prop, followed by an Ohtani homer at +195. Alejandro Kirk at +700 to go yard is also popular.

With Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound for the Dodgers, BetMGM customers like his strikeouts to go over 6.5 (+100) and pitcher outs over 18.5 (-149). BET99 has seen his counterpart, Toronto starter Kevin Gausman, get 92% of bets to go over 4.5 strikeouts.
