The Toronto Blue Jays are the most-bet team to win the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in every state in America but are still the sportsbook’s preferred winners, according to BetMGM senior trader Matthew Rasp.
Key Takeaways
- The Dodgers still have 70% of the series handle at BetMGM.
- Top sportsbooks all reported that Shohei Ohtani hitting a home run is one of Game 1's top props.
- Ohtani has at least 40% of the World Series MVP betting market at two major sportsbooks.
The Dodgers are already down to -225 in World Series odds after opening at +210, while the Blue Jays lengthened from +170 to +185, per BetMGM.
While the Blue Jays climbed 63% of all World Series futures tickets, they only amassed a 30% share of the money. That means 70 cents for every dollar wagered in this market is on the Dodgers, who beat the New York Yankees in five games in last year’s Fall Classic.
“After their Game 7 victory to reach the World Series, the Blue Jays are the most bet team in each state to win it all. However, the Dodgers have garnered enough action, including following their free agency moves before the season began and during the season, that the Blue Jays…

Fifty-six percent of bets but only 40% of the handle is on the Blue Jays to win Game 1. Seventy-five percent of tickets and 71% of the handle is on the Dodgers -1.5.
ESPN BET also reported support for the Dodgers, but not nearly as much as BetMGM. The sportsbook revealed that 54.9% of both tickets and money are on the Dodgers -1.5 in Game 1, while 52.2% of wagers and 44.8% of the pot is on the Dodgers moneyline.
The “sharpest” money at ESPN BET is on the Game 1 under; 30.6 percent of bets and 78.7 percent of the handle have been placed on under 7.5 total runs between the two powerhouses.
BetMGM reported that 66% of bets and 66 percent of the handle were on over 7.5 runs.
World Series MVP, Game 1 props
It should come as no surprise that the most bet player in home runs, hits, RBIs, and total bases markets is Dodgers megastar Shohei Ohtani, per DraftKings.
The sportsbook also reported that 24% of bets and 42% of the handle is on the two-way phenom to win World Series MVP. Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is second with 7% of tickets and 10% of the handle, followed by Mookie Betts (8% and 6%), Max Muncy (4% and 4%), and Blake Snell (4% and 4%).
BetMGM’s most-bet props in Game 1 are for Ohtani (+220) and Guerrero Jr. (+400) to smack a home run. The rest of the top five were Snell over 6.5 strikeouts (+100), George Springer over 0.5 home runs (+450), and Betts under 1.5 total hits, runs, and RBIs (+125).
ESPN BET also had home runs for Guerrero Jr., Ohtani, and Springer as their three most popular prop bets for Game 1.
Ohtani props aren’t the only popular betting market. ESPN Bet users are backing him to win MVP, putting 16.5 percent of bets and 44.1 percent of the handle behind him. Guerrero Jr. actually received a higher share of tickets (19.6 percent) but just about one-third of the money (15.8 percent). Betts is a close third with 15.8 percent of bets and 14.6 percent of the money, before a steep drop-off to Springer (8.8 and 4.8 percent).
Previous matchups, trends
The Blue Jays and Dodgers only played three times during the regular season from Aug. 8-10. The Dodgers claimed two of the three games and won the series by a combined score of 18-7. Ohtani homered twice and went 7-13 at the plate, while Betts and Guerrero each homered once.
Whereas the Dodgers opened around three-to-one to win the World Series back in the spring, the Blue Jays had hovered around +7,500. They finished the year tied with the Yankees for the best record in the AL (but owned the head-to-head tiebreaker) and beat them and the Mariners to get to the big stage.
Game 1 will get underway Friday at Rogers Centre in Toronto at 8 p.m. ET.
