LeBron James failed to score 10 points in an NBA game for the first time in almost 19 years, causing $15,000 in losses for one unfortunate bettor.

Online user Bryce (@BryceLottos on X) wagered $15,000 that James would crack double-digits for the 1,298th time in a row on Thursday.

Key Takeaways

  • The bettor would’ve profited $576.92 if the bet won.

  • LeBron’s last game without at least 10 points occurred in January 2007.

  • The Lakers are sixth in NBA Finals odds.

Jan. 5, 2007. That was the last time that “The King” did not reach 10 points in an NBA game, all the way back in his fourth professional season.

With the power of 18 years of consistent putting wind in his sails, Bryce accused DraftKings sportsbook of being “drunk” for offering odds on LeBron’s double-digit streak to continue.

Just a few minutes after posting the screenshot of his wager, Bryce commented that DraftKings would “have to fire whatever intern” posted the line.

The -2600 odds that Bryce wagered carried an implied probability of 96.3%. That was despite James scoring exactly 10 points in the game before, and scoring 11, 17, and 13 in three of four games just before that.

Unfortunately for the confident bettor, history struck at the worst moment. James’ 4-17 (23.5%) shooting night left him with only eight points, 11 assists, and six rebounds when the final horn sounded.

That stat line was very similar to the one he posted just before the streak began.

The fateful clash with the Milwaukee Bucks saw him go 3-13 (23.1%) from the field en route to eight points, nine assists, and five rebounds.

Unprecedented odds

After being asked to share the losing slip for proof, Bryce provided evidence that he had submitted the wager and did not cash out.

Incorrectly choosing the game that LeBron would not score 10 points for the first time in 1,298 games carries a probability of less than .08%, or +129800.

The streak ended in a way befitting of the Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar. With the ball in his hands in the final seconds and a path to a contested shot at the basket, LeBron rifled the ball to the corner to set up Rui Hachimura’s game-winning three-pointer.

The win improved the Lakers to 16-5, placing them second in the Western Conference and third in the entire NBA.

The purple and gold are still sixth in NBA Finals odds (+1600) at FanDuel sportsbook, trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder (+130), Denver Nuggets (+700), Houston Rockets (+1000), New York Knicks (+1100), and Cleveland Cavaliers (+1300).

More records falling?

LeBron already holds the NBA record for All-Star appearances (21), although it appears that streak will end, too.

In six games, he averaged 14 points, 7.8 assists, and 4.3 rebounds on 41.3% shooting. All of those aside from the assists are the lowest of his career.

Instead, the spotlight is on his teammates, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Doncic is third in MVP odds (+280 at FanDuel), while Reaves is barreling toward the first All-Star appearance of his career.
