Founder and owner of the sports media company Barstool Sports and long-time New England Patriots fan, Dave Portnoy, has revealed an impressive potential payout of $1.8 million if the Patriots win Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks.
Key Takeaways
- Barstool owner Dave Portnoy could win a potential $1.8 million payout from a $50,000 wager.
- The wager was placed when the Patriots had +3500 odds to win.
- According to DraftKings, the Patriots go into the Super Bowl with a +190 chance to win.
Sunday’s AFC Conference Game between the Patriots and the Denver Broncos proved an interesting final, wherein the Patriots claimed their 12th AFC title after a mediocre five years since their 2019 Super Bowl win against the Los Angeles Rams.
Patriots fans rejoiced in the long-awaited win on social media, with Portnoy, a Massachusetts native, posting on X, “As I lay my head on the pillow tonight I’d like to congratulate all Patriots fans across the country. It was a tough 6 year rebuild. But we never gave up. Never wavered. We knew it was only a matter of time till we would rise again. Enjoy tonight. But remember the job is not done.”

Prior to the 10-7 win, Portnoy also shared on X a screenshot of a $50,000 wager he had placed earlier in the year when the NFL team had odds of +3500 to win the Super Bowl. Now, after defeating the Broncos, Portnoy is closer to being $1.8 million richer if the Patriots beat all odds to clinch the Super Bowl LX title.
However, the Patriots' chances of winning the Super Bowl remain slim. On DraftKings, the sportsbook currently has the team at +190 to win. If a Patriots fan were to place a wager of the same amount as Portnoy on DraftKings, they could face a hefty $145,000 return.
Turning to prediction markets, Kalshi currently has the Patriots at 33% to win, while the Seahawks sit comfortably at 68%. Polymarket has similar numbers, with the Seahawks at 67% and the Patriots at 32% as of Jan. 27.
However, only time will tell who the next Super Bowl winner will be, so fans will have to wait until Feb. 8 to see if Portnoy becomes $1.8 million richer.

Super Bowl limits gambling ads to six
As the Super Bowl gets closer, Tim Schlittner, the NFL's director of communications, revealed that only six gambling ads will be permitted to air during the upcoming game.
Gambling harm advocates have since argued that the Super Bowl should not showcase gambling, saying that it would negatively impact those suffering from gambling addiction and people in recovery.
Advocates also highlighted that celebrity endorsements in gambling ads can make them appear safer than they actually are.
However, a recent YouGov study found that celebrity endorsements don’t actually entice people as much as previously thought.
