Rocket Classic sleeper predictions
Sleeper pick to win: Luke Clanton
+4000 at DraftKings
The 21-year-old rising star already owns two runner-up finishes in just 15 PGA Tour starts and returns to Detroit Golf Club for the second straight year. Luke Clanton posted a T10 here in 2024 and is coming off a solid T34 at the Travelers, where he ranked 17th in true strokes gained approach and 14th in putting.
The field isn’t nearly as deep this week, and while his recent wins came in amateur events, stacking four victories in his final seven starts should have Clanton riding high with confidence as he officially begins his pro career.
Sleeper pick to win: Wyndham Clark
+4000 at FanDuel
Wyndham Clark gained true strokes in all five metrics during his solid T17 showing at the Travelers, marking the first time in six starts he gained on approach. This will be his first appearance at the Rocket Mortgage since a solo-eighth in 2022, and he also placed 17th here in 2019 — clear signs he can contend at Detroit Golf Club.
While motivation is tough to measure, Clark needs a strong run to keep any Ryder Cup hopes alive. A win this week would go a long way, and few players in the field boast a stronger overall resume.
Sleeper pick to win: Davis Thompson
+5000 at FanDuel
It hasn’t been a standout season for Davis Thompson, but he’s shown flashes in marquee events — including a T25 at the Travelers, where he ranked third in the signature field in both true strokes gained tee-to-green and on approach.
Thompson also finished T2 at the Rocket Mortgage last year and will be making his fourth career start at Detroit Golf Club. The 26-year-old American also gained true strokes putting in each of his last two appearances at the track, so I’m encouraged by his upside because his best results have often aligned with strong performances on the greens.
