Rybakina pretty much looked flawless for the first 3 or 4 games of that match. I'm sitting there thinking wow, her Wimbledon form has now arrived so Alex is going to have a really tough day here. Then she's like "not so fast" and goes on to lose 3 of her next 5 service games (btw with Alex +460 to win them) and after the early break Eala only faced a single break point for the rest of the match. Pretty impressive feat when you have the number 2 player in the world chasing you for the rest of the match.
I was only watching bits and pieces but to me it didn't seem like Elena was very panicked like she usually seems to be in those situations where nothing is going right for her. Usually she would have that deer in the headlights look while looking to her team to help her figure out what she needed to do. It makes me wonder if the results this week and last week are not simply more of a load management thing for her rather than her slipping into a complete mental funk like she was in at this time last year. But didn't she boot her coach/bf from the match at RG? Seems like I remember that. Because if she has lingering trouble there with him that's a problem and there's no way you can trust to put your money behind her.
But I do suspect the outcome would have been much different if this match were at Wimbledon. She has built up enough of a backbone to her ranking over the past 6 months that the only thing that's really going to significantly help her in her pursuit for #1 are slam or 1000 titles. She already has a couple 500 titles to go along with the year end finals so she mainly needs to build on her AO title with a good run at sw19 and a title at either Cincy or Canada.
Will be something to watch for sure because if she gets back into that same run of form that she was in starting from last October through say the Madrid loss to Potapova she will be very difficult to beat at sw19. Or if not and her mental state hits the fan again she could just end up getting bounced by Tauson early again like last year. Time will tell.
They don't seem to be giving Alex too much credit against Svitolina though..

Can the Angels come back and win? Are they able to cover the +5.5? Well I believe in miracles im playing both, not for much just something I can possibly wake up to with a smile.
