    It's no shock that with a return to office for Trump when Biden was floundering, the stock market was soaring, despite the economy. Now with Harris surging in the polls and a Trump 2nd term not as certain, the stock market is crashing. an_cry Still waiting to see what are Harris' official stances are as what little she has said, appear to be flip flops from where she stood in 2020 and during her vice presidency. Is she just saying what she thinks moderates want to hear to get elected, straying from her radical thoughts previously, or has she turned a corner in her thinking. I have my thoughts.

    The market was being held up by the magnificent 7 stocks (Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, NVDIA, Meta and Tesla) but it's falling apart now. Polling shows more people trust Trump on the economy than Harris.

    I don't think this day has much to do with politics or the president race. This started last week and has been building for awhile. Wait, maybe this does have to do with politics...an_eek2 Just waiting for the last 4 years of posters that kept saying the economy is so great, but failed to look at the debt rates.

    Yes.  It has been building for a while for multiple reasons.  As we get further into the recession it will only get worse.  The FED has not done any better on this end of the rate moves than they did at the beginning.  It will be an interesting next few months.

    I mean of course it's not the sole reason, but a lot of these other reasons have been building for a while. This one fed meeting and no drop and jobs report aren't anything different than what's gone on in the last 8 months. But the indices have dropped about 10% in the last week or so. I can't think of anything but Harris' being switched into the race that has changed different than the last 8 or so months. paint_help

    @Jarrett75

     Borrowing cheap $ has it's consequences when rates get raised...

    It's easy to say the economy and World economy are great when it's really really really cheap to borrow money (saying the economy is great on the backs of debts is just irresponsible and misleading, but we know why this admin has been saying everything is fine for the last 3 years). That money eventually needs to be paid back. When rates rise and you don't have that cash to cover your payments, selling is in the short term future. That's why MSM keeps projecting that the FED NEEDs to lower rates ASAP. As rates go higher, defaults, margin calls and liquidations happen to help cover all those loans as the cost to borrow all that old, cheap money get more expensive.  Just my thoughts. I'm probably wrong.

    That 4.3% unemployment rate is bad. It's just going to get higher if Kamala is voted in. She wants to tax the hell out of businesses. Taxing businesses= mass layoffs. Can't keep printing money and giving money out all around the world without it coming full circle to affect America citizens.

    Do you think the pandemic had any impact on most of those results you posted?

    You could almost throw away all of those years during and a couple of years or maybe more after the pandemic because there was no doubt that it impacted several areas...I'm not even sure we are still out of the ill-effects from what the pandemic really did to the economy...we may feel that for a decade, who knows....it was that impactful...

    Midnight got his numbers from Wiki and left out all of Bidens days in that list. an_roll_laughan_roll_laughan_beatupan_beatup

    Midnight doesn't realize that people have access to data on the internet.   He used the 2nd column and deleted all of Bidens days.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_daily_changes_in_the_Dow_Jones_Industrial_Average

    Most of the volatility was around COVID- thanks Mr Science.

    Also, points are almost irrelevant as time passes. He should be looking at % and not points. % is a better indication than points as time goes on.

    hmmmm 2020 seems like something major was going on that year....I can't remember what.an_timeoutpaint_help But you are right, lots of unemployment and stock crashing, Trump's fault. If only there was a reason, it had to be Trump's fault right? Everything is Trump's fault. Even before he was in politics, right?

    You made a comment in another thread that we won't get through the election if we don't settle down. Do you think calling someone a POS over and over, maybe you need to settle down that rhetoric?

    @Jarrett75

     So he needs to lighten up when he lists down days that Trump was in office when you made the thread which is blaming Biden and suggesting Harris it will continue.

    Maybe this silly thread is the reason for his reply, I didnt even comment because none of you were accurate as to why the market dropped today its all just partisan blaming and bickering.

    I asked a serious questionan_popcorn

    I think the economy does not settle down for a decade or so...that impacts/impacted the past, current and future administrations

    ok tell me what the REAL reason is IN YOUR OPINION. And you know full and well Democrats talk about Trump having a terrible economy and job losses and leave out Covid, just as he did. So don't give me that he had a valid reason and reply. lie You can't keep up this charade of being impartial and making posts excusing what he left out. The post he made was intentionally deceptive and you are taking up for it. confused I THINK you are better than that.

    LOL

    Last thing I am doing is having a calm, non-partisan conversation with you, that is almost funny for you to suggest it. You make a bait thread and then cry when someone takes the bait and hits a reply back in direct relation to the thread YOU made.

    He was right, you cant pull the markets down DEM stuff when first it is not true, second the markets have been doing quite well with a DEM in office and third Trump was in the seat for MANY of the worst down days we have seen. When you make things partisan and not fact or reality based, it can come back and bite you and in this case it did.

    I know and again the feeling is mutual, you aren't capable of being non-partisan, you prove that day after day, post, after post. You aren't going to bait me into an insult by saying I am crying. Please tell me where I cried and wasn't just pointing out the hypocrisy. I posted a video of the definition of pot calling the kettle black and you box me for it. Who's the teary one again?

    And maybe it's my terrible American reading comprehension, but did you post the actual reason the stock market has crashed the last couple of weeks? Just TDS ramblings is all I saw. Still waiting for the reason. an_timeout

    @Jarrett75

     Might I suggest going to a non-political investment based website for that information. Even good ole partisan hack ZH has some coverage about what caused/is causing this.

    My comment was because you played a bait and bait with that other member, he replied with a serve and volley then you actually an_happybouncetook offense that he insulted Trump, I mean it cant be more comical than YOU of all people taking fake insult that someone made a sharp comment about Trump. You dish out more partisan attacks than most and you send in user reports just tit for tat complaining and then YOU cry foul over his response about Trump. That is the crying I am referencing. You dishing it out as a narrative need to have a thicker skin than to play that game and to send in reports that are meaningless and retaliatory as you do.

    It is humorous...just cant make this stuff up.

    @Jarrett75

     Might I suggest going to a non-political investment based website for that information. Even good ole partisan hack ZH has some coverage about what caused/is causing this.
