According to the hill, over 800 Florida doctors signed a letter calling for governor DeSantis to repeal mask mandate ban. He is blocking communities from making local decisions to protect themselves. His order prohibits covid safeguards. Exposing children to a virus deadlier than flu, more contagious than smallpox but preventable with mask use and vaccination. His war against science puts people at risk. Now DeSantis is the model of what not to do in a pandemic.

YAHOO NEWS - Mississippi’s state health director said the pandemic is worse in the state than it’s ever been, as hospitals run out of beds and thousands of students have already tested positive for the virus since schools opened earlier this month.
“We are clearly at the worst part of the pandemic that we’ve seen throughout, and it’s continued to worsen,” Dr. Thomas Dobbs said at a briefing on Wednesday. “We’re seeing higher and higher numbers of not just cases but hospitalizations, people in intensive care units, life support. And sadly, as we’ve seen, additional deaths are going to follow. Without a doubt we have surpassed our previous peaks by a substantial margin, and we expect to see that continue.”
Gov. Tate Reeves, a Republican , has been steadfastly against a statewide mask mandate, and in late July he called the idea of wearing masks inside “foolish” and “harmful.” “It has nothing — let me say that again — it has nothing to do with rational science. In Mississippi, we believe in freedom.”

According to tracking from the New York Times, Mississippi is ranked second among states for both the most cases and the most deaths per 100,000 over the last seven days, in addition to ranking third in hospitalizations.
Dr. Paul Byers, the state epidemiologist, said:
“We’re having so many cases that are occurring so quickly, and when you have a lot of cases, that’s going to translate into a lot of hospitalizations and, unfortunately, a lot of deaths.”
Dobbs noted Wednesday that 89% of hospitalizations and 86% of deaths were among the unvaccinated, emphasizing that “vaccination is our best way out of this.”

It was news because Johansen, along with his wife Cindy, have been very vocal and demonstratively anti-mask and anti-vaccine. Johansen’s anti-science stance led to him and six other Republican representatives getting stripped of their committee assignments after entering the Maine State House without wearing masks in May.
On Aug. 10, his wife, Cindy Johansen, reportedly passed away after struggling for almost a month with the virus. A week after her passing, Chris Johansen appeared at an anti-vaxxer mandate demonstration in Augusta not wearing a mask.

CDC studies show waning COVID vaccine efficacy as delta variant sweeps US
USA TODAY • The CDC’s latest research shows vaccine effectiveness, which was at 91% against the original covid strain has dropped to 66% against the Delta variant.
We were warned many months ago to expect this with mutations.
Thus, people who are fully vaccinated against the original strain now have a 33% chance of illness if they catch the Delta mutation.
There was NEVER a promise that the trump-vaccines would protect against mutations!
Similarly, being vaccinated against Diptheria does not protect anyone from the measles. And if you have had the measles, your measles "anti-bodies" won't protect you from Diptheria, at all.
Dr. Fauci and Dr.Wolensky among many others have warned many times that as long as we allow any covid strain to spread and mutate then this pattern of mutations vs. old vaccines will continue.
They are working now on a vaccine against the Delta strain. But by the time it is eventually developed we will have a whole new mutation to deal with and supposed "anti-bodies" from being infected from the original covid strain won't do a damn thing against future mutations.
Anyone who thinks "natural immunity" (from original covid) will protect them from mutated strains is badly mistaken.

Covid hospitalizations are worse than last August - - before vaccines were available
(CNN) More than 100,000 people are hospitalized with Covid-19 in the US -- the first time that level has been reached since January -- as medical workers say they're once again struggling to treat waves of patients.
Hospitals and researchers have been saying the vast majority of this year's hospitalized patients are unvaccinated. The availability of vaccines makes the current hospitalization surge tragic, Dr. Paul Offit, a member of the US Food and Drug Administration's vaccine advisory committee, told CNN Wednesday.
"The numbers now ... are actually in many ways worse than last August," Offit said. "Last August, we had a fully susceptible population, (and) we didn't have a vaccine. Now, we have half the country vaccinated ... but nonetheless the numbers are worse!!

Delta variant may double risk of hospitalization among unvaccinated
USA TODAY - The highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus may double the risk of hospitalization among unvaccinated people, according to a new study.
The U.K. study, published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases, is part of a growing body of evidence that suggests the latest delta variant may be causing more severe illness than prior strains.
"This large national study found a higher hospital admission risk for patients with COVID-19 infected with the delta variant compared with the alpha variant," researchers found.
The study included more than 40,000 patients with COVID-19 who underwent genome sequencing to determine which variant of the virus they had. Most were UNvaccinated.

CNN - More kids were hospitalized with Covid-19 this month than any other time this past year -- proving how seriously the Delta variant can hit any age group.
Between August 20 and 26, an average of 330 children were admitted to hospitals every day with Covid-19, according to the US CDC. That's the highest rate of new Covid-19 hospitalizations among children in more than a year -- a record that was broken several times in August.
"This DELTA that we're dealing with now is a game changer," aid Dr. Mark Kline, physician-in-chief of Children's Hospital New Orleans. "It's just so easily transmitted from person-to-person."
As of August 9, he said, "Half of the children that we've admitted have been under the age of 2."

A Texas school district closed all its schools after two teachers died from Covid-19
Sept 01 -
(CNN)A Texas school district is closing all of its schools until after the Labor Day holiday after two junior high teachers died of Covid-19 complications in the same week.
Sixth-grade social studies teacher Natalia Chansler, 41, died on Saturday David A. McCormick, a 59-year-old 7th-grade social studies teacher, died August 24
"Our hope is that the closure and holiday break will provide those who are positive with the virus or exposed to others with the virus, the time to isolate and recover. This closure will also allow time for deep cleaning and sanitizing of all CISD facilities."

The US is again at a point where an average of more than 2,000 people die of Covid every day
(CNN)The US is battling rising death tolls and strained hospital resources under the Covid-19 pandemic, and all that could be made more difficult by the upcoming flu season, health experts said.
"We are bracing ourselves for an awfully busy winter ahead," Associate Dean of Public Health at Brown University Dr. Megan Ranney told CNN Tuesday. The US is once again at a point where an average of more than 2,000 people are dying of Covid-19 every day, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
And hospitals are straining to keep up with the number of patients coming in. Staff shortages and employee fatigue in Pennsylvania hospitals have reached a point where some health systems are offering signing bonuses, loan forgiveness and other incentives to staff.
And in Wyoming, nearly 100 members of the state's national guard were activated Tuesday to assist hospitals dealing with the surge.
"Let's be clear on why flu cases were so low last year, it's because we were all masked and we were all distancing," Ranney said. "Those things are NOT being done anymore in the vast majority of the country."
