$1 Million a year for 8 years with signing bonuses of $18.1 M for the first 4 years followed by declining amounts for the following 4 years. Total worth $138M !
Sets the bar high, can't wait to see how this shakes down through the league now especially with the McJesus situation looming.
Certainly a huge commitment on the Wilds part and it locks down a player they can build around, and maybe it also makes Minnesota a destination spot for other players.
My concern would be injuries, twice now he has had lower back problems once requiring surgery. How much of a issue that is remains to be seen.
What do you guys think ? Moose ... you must have an opinion?

Minny had no choice but to sign him but is he $5 million better than the likes of Marner, Rantanen or Pastrnak. I say nope he isn't. Minny is probably the only place he would get paid like this. 41 games played last year and that gets you 17M.
I hope your doing okay bud!
You learn more from losing than winning. You learn how to keep going.

Been listening to NHL radio all day on this discussion. They brought up good points. 1. Most of them say that he is more valuable to his team than McDavid and losing him, the franchise would suffer greatly. Secondly, yes, he is making more than those mentioned by Huntman, but with the salary cap projection to rise, by the time his contract reaches its 4th or 5th year, he will be making way less than the stars in the league. I think his salary is 16% of the salary cap, within a year, some like McDavid, Eichel and a few others could be getting 20% of the salary cap. From my listening, that is what you have to look at. This year, it is $95,500,00 (compared to 88,000,000 last year), in 2026-2027 $104,000,000 and by 2027-2028 it is projected to be $113,500,000. So an UFA in 27/28 wants the same 16%, that would be 18 million, at 20%, that is 22.7 million AAV and the talking heads say the McDavid's of the league will garner 20% of the cap by then.

In the next 2-3 years you've got guys like McDavid , Makar and Matthews coming due for new contracts and I can only imagine what we'll see these guys pulling down. Question though is how much does it affect team dynamics when one player is taking 20% of the payroll ?
