If you were standing next to Lord Stanley’s Cup would you touch it?

I once got to touch the Stanley Cup when the Penguins' Peter Taglianetti brought it Bowditch Field in his hometown (and mine) way back in the summer of 1992. I wanted to pick it up, but he was keeping a close eye on it as he conversed with others.

 would like to hear other Cup stories!    2001 I think in San Jose, wearing my Avs jersey.  My brother and I wait an hour for a pic with the cup at some sports store. The best part is I shot the breeze with Phil keeper of the cup and one of the coolest guys on the planet.  Long story short my picture was with my hands behind my back, and my brother put his fingerprints all over the shiny reflection…even hugged it! I was a tad jealous, but cmon man…there’s no trophy like it. 

Colorado Avalanche 2001 my same brother is bartending at a Mexican joint just outside of Red Rocks, Morrison Colorado. 

In walks Shjon Podein and with the Cup! It’s his day to celebrate! The legend is that after the Avalanche took that epic series from New Jersey in 7 games Podein was challenged to wear his worn jersey for 25 hours straight.  Accomplished with ease.  To take it further his day with the cup was over 72 hours after the final…and he still has some gear on!! Socks, a few pads, an undershirt.  Just rolling through neighborhoods and bars signing autographs and taking pictures… that cup is magical 

Last observation….. holy funk!  There are a lot of Montreal Canadian names engraved. 

Bryan Bickell had it in a small town called Orono which is 20 minutes away from where I live.  It was over 100 degrees that day but we went and got to hold the cup, it was so cool. I work with his niece so we got special treatment.  That was in 2013 when Chicago won the second of 3 cups in 6 years. What a great team they had.

  Chicago was overdue for that era as a OG6 member. I had to google Orono! Great stuff 

I’ve heard of legendary ragers at a bar ironically enough called Stanleys in Chicago. Legendary!

Another well documented celebration was with the Dallas Stars at a pool party that got out of hand in 1999 

The rock band Pantera (big hockey, strippers, and rock&roll fans) hosted the event full of topless ladies and members of the winning squad.  Well Guy Carbonneau was feeling the whiskey muscles and accepted a dare that he could toss the Stanley Cup into the pool from two stories above.  

Didn’t quite make the distance, lol…and ended up with a permanent dent.  I bet Phil Pritchard wasn’t too happy, but was grinning anyways.

I would drink from LORD STANLEY'S CUP

It is interesting as 2 Stanley cups exist. One is on permanent display at the NHL HOF in Toronto. The other is the one that is shown to the fans, awarded to the winning team and shows up in many different places.

If you play for the Blackhawks it’s a non issue.

You would not be anywhere near it
