LogCottage, I cant teach the blind. Go put in another play, as that's why you're here anyways. I know everything. It sounds pompous, but its not. Its factual. Half the Penguins roster were acquired in nonsense trades or in a surprise lottery. You don't believe it because, just like Lipps, youre ONE OF THOSE GUYS.

Because of course Gary and all the owners want the Pens to win. Yes why would an owner want his team to win when the Pens can. If the league wanted anything fixed it would be the Rangers and Kings. That would be a ratings cash bonanza for them.

You can throw whatever crap against the wall, it won't change that the idea of the owners and commish, all getting together in cahoots to help the Pens to win is just insane.
They need to prop up this cash cow for a profit ?

Gary does seem to want to do more for American teams then Canadian teams but I don't think the leauge is fixed for Pittsburgh their just a good team. Also if he hated Canadian teams that much why would he give the leafs and jets the number 1 and 2 picks in the draft where they acquired mathews and lanie the jets got lucky to move up to second in the lottery there was no guarantee they would get second

As someone that has been around and worked with professional athletes, I have learned a thing or two. DB, I appreciate your passion for the game and country, but I will tell you this. Top athletes like Crosby and Stamkos and others that I could mention, have different mind sets. They have reached a certain level and they truly want to play for one thing. A championship and not the money. Bettis did it for Steelers for a chance to win a championship, Tim Duncan did it for the Spurs, to sign other players for a chance at a trophy, LaBron did it, Tom Brady did it. Top athletes that have earned enough for life, give up some money for a chance to win championships. PGA golfers like Tiger and Phil don't give 2 shiits about the Valspar or Waste Management, they only care about the Majors. They use the others to get ready for majors. In my opinion when a high caliber athlete reaches financial wealth, they turn their attention to history and claiming titles. But you are correct, this is not the real world, sports today is not the real world but entertainment. Us real world folks would never consider it.

100% agree with this...Crosby is a different breed. And from small town Nova Scotia where he could buy all of Cole Harbour if he wanted to, do you think he really cares if his net earnings at the end of his career are only 140mil instead of 160mil if he has 3 or more Cups in his trophy case?
And I think DangerBay is also disregarding the fact that for a guy like Crosby, he probably makes double off the ice in endorsements than his playing salary. You should probably factor that in to your hypothetical analysis of whether a guy would choose greed or winning.

You try to compare these guys to blue collar workers who make 50-60k a year...it makes no sense. Guy who makes 60k a year takes 5k less he might not be able to afford his mortgage, feed his family, or take that vacation. Guy who makes 20mil a year takes 2mil less his life doesn't change one bit.
You can believe what you want to believe, but I'm not wrong.
