Denver’s only recent win there came after Mahomes was already hurt. With him in the lineup, this building has still been a problem for the Broncos.

Mahomes has been one of the best opening-day QBs of the era: usually a win, usually touchdowns, almost no picks early in his career.
Nix has two openers. He threw 2 interceptions in each of them.

That’s not a rumor. That’s his entire Week 1 sample: four picks in two games, no efficiency, defense/running saving him once.
3. Those INTs are the cleanest path to -2.5
Kansas City does not need a 35-point night. The number is 2.5. One Nix gift — pick, short field, sudden-change score — is a cover by itself. He’s done that every time he’s opened a season.
4. Vegas still made KC the favorite
Rehab knee, rookie LT, Denver’s rush… and the line is still Chiefs -2 / -2.5 at home. That’s the market saying they’ll take Mahomes in a one-score game, especially if Nix is sloppy again.
5. You don’t need 2018 Mahomes
Total is ~43. This is priced 23–20, not a track meet. Mahomes can look rusty and KC can still cover if Nix repeats his opener habit.

Waddle is new. Ankle is new-ish. The one thing that isn’t new is Nix starting slow and putting the ball in harm’s way on opening night.

Walker III lets them lean run if Mahomes is on a pitch count. A 20–17 or 23–17 game cashes -2.5 without the knee having to be perfect.
9. Chris Jones is active
Interior pressure plus a QB who has thrown two picks in both openers is how you get a short field.
10. Primetime veteran vs Year-3 road opener
Reid/Mahomes have done this stage for years. Nix’s only two season openers both included multiple interceptions. That’s the simplest football reason to take Kansas City tonight: if one quarterback is more likely to donate the game, history says it’s Nix.
