I mentioned in a post last week, that you HAVE TO get pressure on Jordan Love to slow him down. And the best way is with your front 4.
Jordan Love's "Pressure Comp Percentage" is 41.9% and 35th in the league. His "Escape Rate" is 1.2%, or 33rd in the league.
The reason why teams continue to blitz him is because they know the importance of pressuring him. They also know it's a risk because he can smoke you, but that's football sometimes.
Jordan Love from a clean pocket has a 73.1% completion percentage, 5th best in the league. But that # drops down to 62.1% while being blitzed, 19th in the league. So there is a mathematical advantage to blitz him in that regard. But there's a big problem or "risk" involved with that, as Love has a 120.1 EPX rating(explosive plays) 5th best in the nfl. Also, most blitz packages involve man coverage where he is excellent at attacking, with wr's who seperate better than any other group.
The Broncos lead the league in pressures. They lead the league in sacks with 4.2 per game. How do they do it? The front 4.
Their d line has a 37.9% "no blitz" pressure rate, 5th best in the nfl.
The Vikings are best in the league in no blitz pressure rate. When the Packers beat them 23-6, we saw an ass whooping on paper, but it was a poor showing from Jordan Love. And they hid it well. He attempted only 21 passes where they ran the ball 41 times. He had 14 completions for 139 yards(long of 18), no tds, no picks, 1 sack.
It was a game where the offense could afford to change their identity, downshift and idle while JJ Mcarthy got sacked 5 times, threw 2 interceptions and fumbled once. JJ posted a 35.2 qbr in that game. The Packers kicked 3 fg's and ran for two 1 yard scores.
The Eagles have the 3rd best no blitz pressure rate. The Packers scored only 7 points against em. Love was 20 of 36, 176 yards, no td's, no picks, and sacked 5 times.
The Browns have the 4th best no blitz pressure rate in the nfl, slightly above the Broncos. The Packers scored only 10 points in that game. Love was 18 for 25, 183 yards, 1 td, 1 pick, and sacked 5 times. They lost to a Joe Flacco led Browns who posted a 55.6 QBR that game.
Bo Nix can certainly be better than JJ Mcarthy. And I would think that he will be better than Flacco was in that game. Do you guys think that Bo Nix is better than Jalen Hurts currently?
Things to think about...
