This is a drunken public servive announcement!

Hey dummies, any decent bettor knows or should know that your normal 1 unit should be the size of the wager you normally bet.

For example, if you have 10,000 dollars, you might allocate 1000 dollars for your sports betting bankroll.

Any bettor will bet 1-3% of his bankroll on any one bet.

So that means he would be betting 1-3 hundred dollars on a bet.

This should be standard. That way, all the people who want to tail can see who's good, and who's not.

That's the point of these forums. For the dummies to figure out who they want to tail.

Now, lets take our beloved vanzack for example.....He's up 30 ish units but every god damn play is 2-4 units so we can devide by at least 2 and then we know.

Wizerguy is -50 units and bets 10 units on each bet to try  to get even....... jesus. I used him as an example a couple months ago, ragging on him for betting 10 units for a bet which he always does.

If I'm down 20 units for the season, it shouldn't be that easy to climb out of the hole as wizerguy betting 10 units or van betting 2 units(u always bet 2 units+ so that's your unit size. 1 fukn 1 unit dummy. Or Lucky guy..... And his 100 unit play. Well .. What the fuk does that mean...... So normallyhe beta 100 dollars, so this time he bet 100 times that....... okay......

If we all use our normal bey size as 1 unit, it's all equall and good.

In  my initial maukery of wizerguy and his 10 unit horseshit, I posted 256 units on the Bruins inreg.

And it won, so does that mean every newbie should tail all my pics because I'm +256 Units for the year?

Come on guys.... 1 Unit is what you normally bet..

If you normally bet 5, 10, or 100 units on a play, you're just an idiot.

    Drunk guy out!

I have been sports betting since 1980; that is 42 years.

I have read many articles and listened to professional sports bettors, handicappers and lines makers on the old Stardust Line with Lee Pete that used to be broadcast Fridays and Saturdays at midnight on Las Vegas radio station KDWN 720 AM.  The consensus was that the standard wagering bankroll would contain 40 units.  Most bets would be 1 unit with occasional stronger bets worth risking more.  The maximum risk EVER would be 4 units on one game or 10 units on one day.  Conservative money management is vital if you want to avoid having to replenish your sports betting bankroll.

Naturally this could be adapted to suit any individual's needs.  If your methodology only provides you with a small positive expected value beyond the vigorish and if you regularly bet 25 games on a typical NCAABB Saturday, you should have a 100-unit bankroll.

I personally have never posted anything larger than a 2-unit wager on Covers.  Someday I hope to have a wager worthy of a 4-unit maximum play.

    @DogbiteWilliams

     Ok, so you get. Handshake!

    Normal play is 1 unit.

Huge play might be double that. Game of the year 3 units.

What the fuk is with van and his 3.5 bullsht and wizerguys' 20 unit bullshit!!!!!

Oh, and Luckyguy 100 unit? Comon bro!

If anyone actually did bet 100x there normal unit size......

    #1 They're a fuckn idiot.

    #2 They're lying

They're a horseshit bettor who should losr all credibility

    4. Refer to my OP. I'm up 256 units. Fuck yeah! Right? Wrong! I'm a terrible fukn vettor just like everyone else.......

    but..

I have found a way to make money with sports betting. Yup, I have the golden ticket!

Or, follow Vanzack, he's up 30 units.......

But every single unit is fuking 2. So lets just call it 15. If people wanted to bet double there stakes every time...   well that would just be dumb wouldn't it?

Hey Vanzack???  Why don't we just call our normal plays 1 unit?

Or a half if not strong. Or a qtr? But then, why are you making these bets anyway?

    So.....

3 Units .........1 unit normal bet

    2.5...

    2....

    1.5 unit..... NO Plays

1 unit.    His 1 unit plays don't exist...

    Anyway......

Check my recent threads. .... I'm up 256 units.

    @DogbiteWilliams

Might have a play for tomorrow.

    Drunk guy out!

With all due respect, You are an IDIOT !!!

Myself, I very rarely bet 1 Unit ... I pick and choose my games, mostly very carefully, and I bet bigger than 1 Unit ...

    I mainly don't bet 4,5,6 games on a card, I will bet 1 or 2 ...

Pray tell what the F%$K is the difference between having 4 to 6 bets @ 1 Unit each, or 1 very good looking bet @, lets say 5 Units ??

Wake the F#$K up, and go study and cap your own games, and find your own bets, instead of crying about how "other" cappers bet and their unit size !!! an_baby

    Ok so, to clarify,

1-3% of your betting bankroll should be your normal 1 Unit plays.  That would stipulate that you have a better than 52.38%  edge over the books line.

That should always be your 1 unit play.

So,Vanzack, are you youdaying you have a bigger edge on all your plays to warrant 2 or 2.5 or 3 units? Idon't think so....... obviously!

Your 100 game of the year horsrshit or 3.5 units only says you're chasing, or you have no clue about the value of a UNIT!

Hey Wizerguy..... I know you're a Macdadie of covers nfl forums but comon bro.... every game   10 units

    .. or 20.......

    It mrans nothing.

Each 10 unit play is your 1 fuking Unit.

Like I said, I'm up 256 Units after 1 play

What does that say? I can make my next play 500 units if it will make me get back to even, or look cool.

Wow! You're so far off! No on'es crying here!   And if you think you only bet 4-6 unit plays..... then that is your normal 1 Unit play dummy!

And if you bet 4-6 unit plays or 10 like you normally do, you have no understanding of betting/financing/risk managemement

Carry on with your 10 U plays dummy...    cause that means something

    Like I posted onlne.......

    1 winner=====256 units......

zwhat if I post a 30 unit play tommorow...... what does that mean???A big play?  A small play?    Should I take a normal play and double it like Van????? Or maybe 100 U like Luckyguy?

What's our standard here??? Wizerguy????  10 Units????

How about everyone makes there play 1-2 Units?

That way we're all playing on a level surface. If you can't agree with tbat you either can't read, or you're an idiot.

@Sydneys best, you can go to sleep. You clearly don't get it.

zOr, if I'm wrong...    What's your next 10 Unit bet you post Every week?

Here is an easy solution for you ... Keep going into peoples threads, and look what their plays are ...

This obviously happens because your too lazy, or too stupid to cap for yourself ...

Anyway, check out everyones plays, and TAKE NO NOTICE OF THEIR UNIT SIZE !!!

Just imagine to yourself that every play you pop in to see, is a 1 unit play !!!

VERY SIMPLE SOLUTION ... NO BRAIN SURGERY NEEDED !!! GOOD NIGHT an_baby

If you don't have better than a 52.38 edge against a -110 line you shouldn't be betting at all. Not even 1 Unit. Not 100 Units likevLuxkyguy, 10 Unuts like Wizerguy or sydbeysbest. Anyone that doesn't get that clearly doesn't understand math.

    @DogbiteWilliams

If your bankroll has 40 units, betting up to 4 units on one game is an EXTREMELY aggressive strategy.  A standard 1 unit bet in that case of 2.5% is also aggressive.  This 10% max bet method should only be employed if you don't really need your bankroll.  A 100 unit bankroll with a one unit (1%) standard bet, and 3 unit (3%) maximum is much more realistic, if one plans to bet on a continuing basis.

I used to listen to Lee Pete too.  Do you remember him always plugging those sansabelt slacks?  Those were good times.  peace_5

Its an interesting topic. And you are partially right.  And it is very frowned upon to talk about here....

The main problem is that 98-99% of gamblers lie to themselves.....98-99% of posters in here lie to themselves....hence why only about 1-3% of gamblers are actually + money lifetime....there is so much self control involved in gambling and only 1-2% have it

A unit is a made up measurement in my opinion..its not set in stone...its almost a method of advertising for touts and has trickled into every day bettor wordology...

The truth is a winning bet is just a ratio to your bet amount, which is what you are trying to state

The reality and truth of the matter is they are up 'x' amount of bets based on bet size....

At the end of the day just ignore the units and look at the picks....every capper goes on hot streaks...or most ...

For the guy lurking on COVERS, who should he tail..... 1. Me.......no clue Van...3.5 units?   no edge warrranting 10%+edgr Wizerguy? Yeah. 10 Units....Okay or Luckyguy..... 100 Units......m Okay... It lost.

I don't care about unit size, period.

The issue here is one us thinks is a " Proffesional Gambler " Clearly I'm not and don't care.

Post your picks vs. wasting your time with this. peace_5

This year I have been really good about limiting bet size to one unit, which was originally about 6% but now it’s down to 1%. Only big plays of the year were:

    Bears under 6.5 - 9 units - win

Saints to beat Bucs in Game 1 3.5 units - loss

Rams over v Raiders 4 units - loss

    France 2 units - loss

Cards v Rams with Colt McCoy 3 units - win

And one other 3 unit play I can’t remember right now.

I had to reload my bankroll for this season (in August), but also made a 15 unit play on the Super Bowl - (Rams, and under, both hit)

Point is, and I know this, my biggest bets are generally failures. My best bets are the ones I have some hesitancy about. My locks = not so good.

Van here. Great thread, great topic, and happy to tell you my logic behind the way I stake. I have written novels on this over the years here, and feel a very strongly about it so it is a topic that I love discussing, and I'm constantly learning and adjusting.

That being said, my units are basically percentages of my bankroll. So a two-unit play is basically 2%. I have to really boil up my process and what my process spits out to a digestible unit size for the masses. I'm not saying that in any derogatory way. I am saying that it is very difficult to come up with a perfect staking solution for the public. What I do privately might be very different than what I do publicly, because I personally get a lot more scientific and precise, and a lot has to do with the current line, the current price and current conditions.

When I'm posting on a public forum in advance, I have to round numbers. It's just the truth and the reality of the situation. So I understand when you say it's BS that I post 3 and 1/2 units, but that 3 and 1/2 units means it's a pretty strong play for me, and it's about 3 and 1/2% of my bankroll. I never really go above four and I do go down to one. I rarely go down below to this time of year, but if you look at my post at the beginning of the year they were all one and one and a half units which equals one to one and a half percent of my bankroll.

So right now I'm about 35% up on my bankroll for the season. Hope this helps clear up any misunderstanding, and just understand that there is no easy way to post five or six games, at the same time every week, using public lines, using public prices, that makes sense for everybody. I just try to do what I think will help the most amount of people understand the thrust of what I'm trying to do.

Hope that clarifies things. I will check back to this thread if you have any follow-up questions. My goal is always transparency, honesty, and record keeping. Keeping. A lot of times that hurts me in the public forum, but I really care about how much money I have and not how much likes I get here.

And add something... I bet a lot of games that I find small edges on. I'm not a guy who bets 10 units or 10% of his bankroll on any single play. I bet a lot of games. I bet a lot of games because I come up with small edges on each one, and I believe in repeating small edges over time as many times as I can.

This is why my unit sizes are small percentages of my bankroll. I realize there are people who feel like they can pick out one game a week, and bet 10% on it or something, but I don't believe that can be successful.

Since I am in this for the long run, seasons on seasons on seasons, I feel like betting into small advantages if I can identify them correctly and doing it lots and lots of times takes the variance out of the week to week or day-to-day. So I don't get worried when I have a losing Sunday, or go on an 0 and 20 run. I just keep doing my process. And my process is simple: identify an edge, evaluate the strength of The edge, stake accordingly, and repeat as many times as I possibly can.

This is why my unit size is between one and four.

There is another huge factor in all of this, that you really aren't addressing in your somewhat narrow view of how people should stake, and that is what their goal is. This is probably the most important thing to unit size, simply what your risk tolerance is and what you want to accomplish.

For example, if I told you I wanted to double my money in a month, there is no way I'm going to do it the way I'm doing it currently. I would need my unit sizes to be way higher, at least in the double digits, in order to reach that goal. Of course there is more risk in this approach, but the goal is the starting point. If you identify the goal of why you are sports betting and what you are trying to accomplish, that is the cornerstone, everything flows from that.

So my goals personally are probably more conservative than some others. My goals are to be profitable. I bet enough dollars and my bankroll is big enough that I make a lot of money or enough money for me winning 25% or so on a season. My 25% a season is probably way more than another person's doubling their money. But it's all in the goal!

I understand at the heart of your complaint is there's no way to compare amongst covers posters Who is actually doing well and who isn't. One guy has 50 units per bet. One guy has something else. I get it. All I can tell you is me. I am consistently between one and four units. We all know everyone posts for different reasons here, a lot just to get online likes which I never understand, I do this legitimately to be part of a community that collectively increases my knowledge, and maybe along the way I increase their knowledge.
