Think about how often that happens...almost never. The most common decision is to defer until the 2nd half.
But it worked for Ben Johnson, as the Eagles were moving INTO the wind in the 4th quarter. How the fuck does that happen when your opponent chooses "take the ball first"?
Will any reporters ask this question to Nick Sirianni this week? I think not.

And chose to receive the opening kickoff.

The Eagles most productive quarter was the 3rd, when they had the wind at their backs.
They got the long td pass to AJ Brown.
Then they were in the redzone on 3rd n 1 when the tush push was not only stopped, but they stripped the ball from Hurts. Not a turnout anyone could of expected. Maybe the Bears had a plan for the tush push with their CB to try that, or not. I'm not sure.
Just a reminder of how coaching can affect the outcome of a game. Sometimes metrics and power ratings aren't the say all be all when it comes to betting.
The Eagles could of been in a better position in the 4th quarter by a simple coin toss at the start of the game.

I don't think it was. Ben Johnson couldn't be that dumb to risk field direction just to get the ball first. He left the decision in Nick Sirianni's hands.

Great point, although I don't think the Eagles would have won if every drive started at the 50. I've seen a lot of lopsided scores but this stands out bc of the Bears bulldozer rushing attack. I was entertained on my drive back from Thanksgiving holiday listening to talk radio and how angry the fans were in a game they expected to win easily. I'm surprised the Bears didn't score 40. Congrats on the win

@maxwagers781 i think vs the eagles this is a step up in class for the bears One of your posts in a thread of mine max and now that they won fair and square you are going to call it luck? I think it was a great coached game plan as Sac mentioned and that alone is hard to ignore.
i was posing the question to sac who was discussing the coin toss. which is a lot of the time luck lol. but as for the field position and that decision, if ben johnson knew what he was doing then what was the point of the post?
Nuthin but a g thang baby

Eagles really need to start running hurts...opens up the entire offense...on the TD drive to brown as soon as Hurts ran, the next play barkley had a big rush and then the long pass to AJ....
I'd run Hurts the ground if I was the eagles coaching staff...they actually have a decent backup QB as well if he does get injured

Yes. I often wonder why coaches don't choose to do this far more. Especially if you have a decent defense and are facing a mediocre offense.
The first coach I ever saw do this effectively was Parcells. He chose to kick off both halves of the NFC Championship game just to be able to start with the wind. They scored with the wind a couple of times and had a shutout.
Then many years later Belichick remembered him doing that and chose the wind in OT against Manning. He said he was willing to risk it because he felt like the wind made about a 20-yard difference in FG distance. He said the way the teams were playing and with the wind the way it was coming from the open end of the stadium he felt it was worth the risk of giving Manning the ball first.
Far more coaches need to consider these things when the wind gets above 18-20 mph or so.
People also need to understand what excellent plays on the UNDER these are for this very reason.
I saw somewhere else on here where someone was saying Caleb did not look that good and got lucky, etc.
The whole issue is no QB looks good in windy conditions.
Wind affects a game far more than rain, cold, or snow does.
Coaches are worried if they do something like this and it does not work out they will look bad. Yet, they are willing to go for it on every 4th down when it really does not make sense in the flow of the game. Then they go for 2 points when, if they miss, they then force their defense to have to make two stops and their offense to score on two drives. Analytics is not as good for football as it is for baseball because there are far fewer chance for it to go right in your favor.
