They review in Rams but not Bills? Some of the most egregious, corrupt( yes corrupt) bs I have seen. NFL integrity seriously in question now, even moreso. Yet,viewership and ratings will continue to rise. Minus one...
I had no monetary risk in Buf.

Makes me wonder what in the world is the cause of all this terrible karma for Buf,over many yrs. Josh Allen, for one, deserves better. And the HC during the Kelly era...whose name escapes me. A good man. Read his autobiography yrs ago.

Where the NFL has really screwed up, is not letting teams be able to have a challenge in OT. This makes zero sense and am sure fans on both sides would want that and wouldnt complain that the game took a little longer.
That catch or int should have been reviewed, that was pretty lame by the nfl not to do it. Take the few minutes and make sure you got the call right.
If NFL dont want teams to have challenges in OT during the season, even thou thats dumb, they should at least change the rule for the playoffs.

Natl Entertainment League. This officiating dynamic certainly makes it harder for those of us who like to speculate on outcomes. Frankly, the main reason I've cut way back the last few years. I trade equity futures, which is subject to similar, hence, position size and risk mgmt paramount. And discipline. With such,we can succeed and prosper long term. I am 9-3 on posted teasers, proving such.Think 6-3 on straight up CFB. UGA mostly. And some of the above is a motivation with these(teasers) to avoid some of this " manipulation". And less variance in NFL. Go Hoosiers!

@cd329
I agree. They should each get one.
Otherwise, the coach has to call one of their timeouts and hope it gives New York time to get a different look at it.
In this instance, he called the timeout and talked to the referee and was told New York verified the call.
But they should have a challenge in the OT.

So, they apparently had looked at it and agreed.
Like one guy said:
Referee Carl Cheffers explained that Cooks never had possession of the football as he crashed to the turf.
“The defender is the one that completed the process of the catch, so the defender was awarded the ball,” Cheffers said in the Pro Football Writers Association (PFWA) pool report.
and this:
Of course, McMillian wonders what the fuss is about.
“I don’t really think he had complete control going down,” he said. “We were both fighting for the ball. I just made a play and basically took it out of his hands and came up with it.”
This guy explained the difference between the two this way:
@RenegadeG: One guy caught the ball on his feet and lost it while being tackled. His knee hit and he’s down. The other caught it while falling to the ground. In which case, you have to control the ball throughout contact with the ground. He lost the ball to the DB as soon as he contacted the ground. It was the right call and it’s funny to watch how delusional people are. If they call the blatant hold in the end zone a few plays earlier, the Bills lose by a safety in an even more incredibly heartbreaking situation.

As close as NFL games have been getting each year, I think more and more games are going to have some of this controversy.
Folks used to say that one call should not determine your result for you.
In other words, you should not let your self be put in a situation where one call will.
But it is hard to make that case nowadays because the games are so very close and a lot of the games will come down to the last drive.
So, almost by definition, one call will win or lose the game for a team.
It is even more emphasized when it is two good teams in a close playoff game.

As one of the biggest critics of NFL officiating it’s hard to say that it was the wrong call. A great point was made to me yesterday. If you take the defender out of the equation and the ball comes loose it’s an obvious incompletion. Therefore it has to be an interception.
But it was absolutely ridiculous to make that determination so quickly. I’ve said it before, use the technology. Use every camera angle and take a few minutes to look it over. A trip to the AFCCG is on the line on that play. You have to treat it with respect.
To the point made about the potential holding call missed for a safety- this also must be reviewable. Just the same way the potential PI on Brandon Cooks needs to be reviewable. These officiating miscues absolutely cannot determine winners and losers. The players and fans deserve better and it would take little effort to make the improvements.

Though I know that many on this forum do not like Tom Brady, one thing I would say about playing on games in which I had my money riding on Tom Brady many of games I used to sit and watch the refs wanting to make call after call on Brady to have some say in the outcome of the game but apparently Tom Brady was so good that play after play he completed the penalties after the blatant bad calls and dominated the game which reflected with the score and never was put in a position to where he would lose the game on a bad call or even several bad calls for that matter because he never gave the refs the chance to change and control the outcome of the game because they couldn't or it would of been extremely obvious what they were trying to achieve.....Thanks Tom.... It was said they are watching the game from multiple angles in real time in NY and verified the INT right away.
Like one guy said, it did not hit the ground, so it was not incomplete, the receiver was bobbling and never had complete control and the defender did get control.
It was the right call.
Even if they had revised it and came back and SAID it to the public at that time -- folks still would not have agreed. Because they do not understand the difference and the rules.
The fans all saw it multiple times on replay in slow motion and still do not know what happened. They still disagreed after the replay official on TV told them what happened.

Yes, but I do not want them to review every single potential PI call. Then it will be very holding call that was missed.
It would bog down a game that already is too slow and bogged down.

Yes, I saw a good interview with Brady emphasizing about how very critical the small things are magnified in the playoffs.
You listen to him and you can tell his whole mindset was about winning and especially how to win in the playoffs.
Most good QBs just are built for regular season. Very few are built for playoff games.
Like he said the bye week was not a rest week for him. It was all about an extra week to study the other team's defenders, including the backups.

While I disagree with the sentiment that the rules of the game can be ignored in order to “keep the pace”, I will agree that every holding and PI shouldn’t be reviewed. I personally think people make way too big of a deal of the reviewable penalty idea. Everyone makes the same argument. It would take too long, it would slow the game too much, and where do you draw the line. I get it. I’m a reasonable and logical person. But some of these penalties that are either called or missed are so unbelievably egregious that they can’t be ignored. There can be a happy medium where most are left alone and the really bad ones are reviewed and corrected.
Here’s a thought and maybe you’ll meet me in the middle here- allow coaches challenges to be used for penalties. Now you have a review process for penalties missed and made along with other critical on field situations, but it also has a limit based on the amount of challenges that each team gets.
I understand that this doesn’t necessarily apply to the conversation about the catch/interception. I believe it was called correctly. But from the viewpoint of the fan who sees these things called incorrectly multiple times a week, it just seemed like the call was made and it was a moot point that didn’t deserve any explanation from the officials. The fans thought it was worth a stoppage and I don’t disagree.
How did you feel about the potential missed PI on cooks in the endzone?

I just do not know how you can determine in real time an 'egregious' missed call. They missed it because they did not see it.
Who would be in charge of seeing it and alerting them. The coaches cannot see everything in time to challenge it.
You cannot trust the player that got 'fouled' to tell the coach to challenge it because all players think all missed calls are egregious.
I am not so sure about missed PIs being reviewed. There are so many of those. There were a couple yesterday where the guy clearly had to try to catch the ball with one hand because the other hand got blocked or held. Another call where the defender clearly had his back to the ball and did not turn to look for the ball.
I get your point about some of us bellyaching about it slowing the game down. I do think you want o get it right.
But at some point you are almost taking a pause between every single play to look at the action again to see if anything was missed.
How would you go about deciding what to review? Just if NY happens to see it, prone of the coaches? You put the assistants and the coaches booth in a bad spot. What if he tells the HC to challenge and it is not overturned. Then the timeout is wasted. So, people are worried to 'waste' a timeout, etc.

To answer your question about eh Cooks PI. I do not understand how sometimes the lateness of the game 'makes' the referees decide all of a sudden to 'let them play'.
I was telling someone the other day how amazingly high most of these refs grade out. We all see it in HD slo-mo. They get so many bang-bang plays correct.
I do not know the exact number off the top of my head, and it may have changed since I last saw it, but only about 40% or so of calls that are challenged are overturned.
You DO want to get it right. Especially in a high-profile or playoff game.
