Replace all these coaches with computer chips.
Sick of all these over payed nothings it's a simple kids game the media and public make celebrities out of clowns like Tomlin.

So true, the media is pushing the narrative that Tomlin has been a cross between Mother Theresa and Mahatma Ghandi. Steelers only great head coach was Chuck Noll and even he stayed on for too long.

tomlin could win 1 game next year and he'd still be the steeler's coach. tomlin could have losing seasons the next 7 years and he'd still be the steelers coach. if noll could do these things I don't see why tomlin couldn't. Go Steelers.

@rosswin97
To compare Noll with Tomlin is complete lunacy. One turned around a franchise with a losing tradition and created a dynasty.
One of those men could actually coach x's and o's whereas the other is a glorified cheerleader with a set of headphones and a thesaurus.
If participation trophies are your thang, then Tomlin is your man. Tomlin is a DEI hire who inherited a great coaching staff and great players which led to some early success, nothing more.
If the Steelers must have a minority head coach then get one with a functioning brain like Brian Flores or someone like Dennis Green. I don't care if the head coach is the color of a babboon's rearend as long as he can coach.

Knoll after Bradshaw only won 1 playoff game in the next 9 years before he retired. He was 1-13 the year before they drafted Bradshaw.
Another great coach for sure. But just another example of a coach that needed a great QB. This was at a time when it was not nearly as much of a QB-driven league.

@Raiders22
Well said, Raiders... It can't be overstated how important it is have a quality QB in this league and expect to win (on a consistent basis) ..
I put it this way ; If you don't have a quality QB on your team, you can't expect much from your team ... And if you do have a great QB, that is just but one important ingredient it takes to win the big one. Buffalo and Cincy are two current examples of this latter point.

define quality. steelers had an all-star team for nearly a decade with the steel curtain, a great running back in franco harris and some dynamic receivers who often performed acrobatic feats in order to haul in bradshaw's passes. if you have a season where you throw 12 tds and 12 ints, complete only 47.7& of your passes and still have a record of 11-3 that means you have a great team, kinda like dilfer and the ravens. the year after that he threw for 10tds 15 ints completed 49% of his passes but he was 8-1 in the games he started. I assume the game was much unrefined as well, with the route tree being less than stellar and I know most teams ran on 1st and 2nd down and the qb was under center almost all of the time.

Fun fact: Adam Chernoff, who is now at Right Angle Sports and had a podcast on Covers, pointed out years ago that the prior Steelers OC was forced to cede control to Rooney/Tomlin to run a certain percentage of the time. Tomlin has been controlling the scheme for years and owns their middling offense.
The Arizona Cardinals in 2023 showed how you upset the Steelers. You basically have to have an energetic tackle like Paris Johnson take TJ Watt to the woodshed, and just pick the fight from the 1Q on. Gotta plan to mess him up all day, scheme around Watt. Load up heavy and destroy him, put him on his heels. Watt's a tough mofo, but he can be schemed around.

The question on what defines "quality" in a QB is a fair point. At risk of hijacking this thread, I have lots to talk about on this topic, and will plan on starting a thread in the future to address this.
Bradshaw may not have have been an elite QB, but he definitely did enough and was talented enough to win 4 Super Bowls and get into the HOF. Dilfer, on the other hand, just might be the worst QB in a generation to win a SB. This just doesn't happen that often. Go look at the last 20 Super Bowls, and you'll find a who's who of the QBs who won those Super Bowls. Nick Foles just might be the most surprising on the list.
To bring this back to Steeler Nation, Mason Rudolph has a lot to prove to get on the "quality list" of reputable QBs.

Trust me as a Ravens fan since before the 1st snap, Trent Dilfer was a God awful QB, if Bradshaw had been our QB we might have went undefeated. Now regarding the Steelers this year if they are as bad as Bob suggests then why does Vegas have them at 8'? IMO Mason Rudolf is nothing more than a slightly below average QB.

Saw this earlier in an article about them knocking Tomlin for not going for it on 4th down at the end of the game instead of punting in the Viking game. The guy was making the point that no matter what the analytics tell you, they do not tell you how your player’s strengths and weaknesses are on that particular day.
As much as the league has become a league of parity and competitiveness, it is ever more important to win the close games.
So, they listed this stat:
In his 19th season, Tomlin is 108-65-2 in one-score games. That .617 winning percentage is the best in NFL history,
Since Tomlin became Steelers coach in 2007, his success in these circumstances dwarfs that of his contemporaries. The Chiefs’ Andy Reid has 88 wins in one-score games, and John Harbaugh of the Ravens has 76.

@Raiders22
We will revisit this thread after the last 3/4s of the season are over. Victories over the Jets, Pats, and a wounded Vikings team don't impress me. The Steelers still have to face the Bills, Lions, Chargers, Packers, Colts, both Ravens games to see if this team is for real.
My criticisms of the man/God Tomlin really upsets you. You know what??? Too effing bad baby.

Steelers are going to win the division once again. Browns are down, Bengals are reeling without Burrow, and Jackson is hurt on a 1-3 Raven's team. I thought the Steelers looked great last week. Tomlin is a really good coach. It just shows you how spoiled some fans are.

@River_fish
Steelers are smoke and mirrors. No playoff wins in 8 years and blown out in their last 5 playoff games is equal to being spoiled. Steeler Nation won't be satisfied with another participation trophy. There is only one reason why Tomlin is still head coach.

Nah, it does not upset me. I am not a Steeler fan.
I just came across that stat and though it was amazing and remembered this thread where we were talking about him.
I simply contend that too many knock him is all.
Every year, everyone, including me, seem to think he is going to fall off a cliff. But he doesn't.
I agree the road ahead is tough and they need to keep their foot on the pedal when they get a lead.
I also agree that Steeler Nation wants to revolt. But we shall see.
It will be interesting what their plan at QB is next year. If they aim to draft or trade for one.
But either way I get your point(s). I simply think 85% of the other teams would gladly take their record and Tomlin with it.
Still amazing that he has the best record in history in one-score games.

YOU have zero understanding of how Tomlin coaches and IF you did, you wouldn't be such an apologist for him. Art and I have laid out our case about why we have no faith that Tomlin will lead them to anymore glory years...you can prattle on and repeat what mainstream sports' media tells you all you want but that doesn't change reality.

What is the reality? How great their record is compared to nearly all other teams? Most teams do not even make the playoffs or have a winning record season after season.
I watch all of the games, so I have a good idea of his coaching. I have pointed out that there may be better Xs and Os guys. But apparently he has a lot more of the intangibles than other coaches. Some of his in-game decisions may be questioned.
But I was amazed to find that his in-game decisions have mostly been correct.
Imagine if he had gone for it on 4th down and gave MINN a short field to get a FG. The media would have been all over him even more.
All the numbers say to go for it there. But with only 17 games in a season you have to win the close games by knowing your team at the time.
Apparently he is the best in history at this and it has to count for something.
