Question

Quick introduction: I have been a long-time lurker on the forums (NBA, NFL, occasionally MLB) and a long-time capper in my spare time. I'm not a tout, not about gimmicks, and not about impulse picks.

My plays are made using a combination of instincts, reading lines, and using statistical data and accounting for inflating or deflated numbers.

I like to see other people do well in this cult of ours we call sportsbetting, and I—like many of you— are committed to consistent success as far as picking is concerned.

When it comes to NBA, I play a small board. I make 2-3, possibly 4 plays at the most, but typically expect one primary pick especially if it's not on a primetime night.

I'm posting this thread as a way of tracking my plays for personal leisure, and I hope it serves some of you well.

Feel free to tail, fade, chastise, compliment, etc.

Tonight's plays, 1/23/2014:

Lakers + 13 (snagged the line when it opened)

Over 209.5

Portland - 7

Under 221.5

good job on your 1st posting day.....could you give a rough estimate on wins/losses in a certain time frame like the last few weeks or so??? So do you bet through a sportsbook or just doing it for fun?? If you've been on a good run lately you should have a decent bankroll??

Thank you, sir.I used to do this for a living, but frankly, the ups and downs of betting became very destructive on my psyche. The hobby stopped being about the fun and it started becoming a chore, something that I think anybody doing this should avoid at all costs.Now, I strictly do it for extra money on the side. I like to think (naively perhaps) that I&#x27;m a sharp mind that plays with a square&#x27;s bankroll.I use several different books, at the moment I&#x27;m at Bookmaker after just cashing out from Youwager.I tend to play dogs a lot, and I keep an eye on a lot of stats guys and I take their projections and compare it to the line the books put out. If I can find a line that&#x27;s been inflated, even if it&#x27;s by a point or two, I feel like I can capitalize on that.Yesterday, the Heat line for example was inflated in favor of the Lakers.Lately, I&#x27;ve been busy with the NFL playoffs but during the week I play NBA because the high volume of games allows for a lot of profit if you can hit them.I&#x27;ve been doing pretty well, but I won&#x27;t count it because unposted plays whether winners or losers don&#x27;t count. Here&#x27;s a run down of a few of my plays off the top of my head lately that I didn&#x27;t post: Portland 2h -7 yesterday (W), Suns &#x2B;6 (W), Heat-Celts Under 185.5 (W) Warriors ML (L), Heat -6 (W), those are my last few NBA plays that were not documented on here, so 4-1, not terrible, not incredible.The key is consistency as far as my unit size and thought process, but losing is inevitable no matter how great a play seems. Just making the right plays in the right spots.Since bowl week, I would be up big time if I was playing with big units.

Definitely a tough game. Two terrible ATS teams, one is terrible on the road, one is terrible at home. Numbers show the line should really be more of a pick&#x27;em, so I&#x27;ll take the points.

1-1, tracked plays now 4-2.Got a great number on Boston, but when I heard the Durant news I was worried we&#x27;d get the letdown we received from Boston.Could&#x27;ve been a lot worse, congrats to those who tailed the New Orleans pick, congrats to those who faded the Boston pick

You don&#x27;t think that Houston will cover being that they just lost to the last night....possible revenge factor?  Obviously you don&#x27;t, otherwise you would have played the opposite...just curious about why you don&#x27;t feel those reasons outweigh your own....

I think the revenge factor is the most overrated angle in sportsbetting. Teams don&#x27;t think like that unless it&#x27;s a significant rival. I would be worried about a letdown from Memphis because they already beat these guys, and it&#x27;s possible they take it easier because mentally, when you feel like you conquered someone already, there&#x27;s a tendency at times for teams to lose.I think the mental state of Memphis is more important than the revenge factor from the Rockets.I like the number Memphis is getting. That was my primary reasoning behind the pick.

Like your style Whisky......Always look forward to cappers who at least provide some analysis and insight on their picks... also like the fact that you can break down and explain some logic. I&#x27;ll never blindly follow anyone as I cap my own games as well but love hearing other insights, views, and angles. This is what this forum is about. tired of seeing dopes post random picks, locks, guarantees, public fades..... etc with no reasoning.
