Just sidestepping your ridiculous macho BS for a second, the books aren't trying to break even on sports betting, they certainly will have positions on games due to how their customers bet, BUT the more bettors they have, it's more likely to even out which is what they want - then they take the 10% vig without it mattering what side covers.

If they don't get even action the results will be much more volatile - the house edge is built in and over time, it will conquer variance in the long run so that's ideal - it's like printing money.

 You are 100% correct as they could care less who wins. Banks make billions on a few percentage points yearly and books make 5% per wager no matter the outcome. Some days one side of the bets are loopsided and others are in the favor of the books. But for the most part the action is even or they move the line.

Good luck all and the books are not your enemy the vigorish/juice/rake/cut/house/house advantage makes it very difficult to beat the book. Shop for best lines and money management is your only chance to beat the house.
