I follow the Wizards extremely closely and generally have a good sense of how they will perform. My record betting on them this season will speak for itself. Right now i'm 0-0, but think i can add some value to the forum with my Wizards expertise.
I'm expecting this team to compete at a high level this year. They very quietly had a top-10 defense last year. The players have bought into what Randy Wittman is selling, and they have established defense as their identity.
Bradley Beal will be a superstar sooner rather than later. Go check out his preseason game log. High volume, high efficiency scorer. That's a beautiful combination right there. Not to mention his rebounding and defense. This kid does it all.
I don't expect the team to get much of anything out of Otto Porter this season. He is behind Ariza and Webster on the depth chart and it will be hard to break into the SF rotation. Glen Rice Jr, the second round pick, will have a bigger impact this season than Otto.
Okafor was a big part of our defensive identity last year, so there will be an adjustment period without him. But Gortat is a huge pick up. He is an upgrade on the glass and offensively, and probably only a slight downgrade defensively.
The offense is going to be much better this year. Okafor, Vesely and Booker, all 3 very limited offensively. have been replaced in the rotation by Gortat and Al Harrington, two exceptional offensive players and both good fits in an offense led by John Wall.
I'm predicting 45 wins and the 6th seed, and I definitely recommend taking betting over 39.5. We'll see if everyone can stay healthy.

WOW! 39.5! I didn't even check that line. That is strangely on the low side. I would have said 42.5/43ish. I may have to lock some money up for the long term on that.
I always like the perspective of a fan who truly knows his team and isn't a homer.
Who do you like for Wash +3 vs. Detroit on Wednesday?

Wish we had someone like you for every nba team. That would be cool if we could somehow get something going like that. Locals are more in tune with their team and are more aware of news related to their team.

These teams met in the preseason 8 days ago. The Pistons dominated the first half even though newcomers Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings did not play. The Wizards came out with a different intensity in the second half, and erased a 18 point deficit to eventually take the lead in the 4th quarter. The Pistons ended up winning the game in a close one.
I feel like this is relevant because the Wizards came out of that game saying that they know it is going to be a battle on opening night. The Pistons defense should be top 10 with Drummond and Smith down low. The Wizards know they will have a tough task on their hands to go into Detroit and get a win.
From a matchup standpoint, I like the wizards. John Wall and Brandon Jennings aren't in the same league as point guards. Jennings takes a lot of bad shots, and Wall should be able to frustrate him with his defense. The Pistons frontcourt is great, but I don't trust their backcourt. Rodney Stuckey is not expected to play, so that leaves Jennings, Billups, and KCP handling the majority of minutes. I do like Will Bynum off the bench, but i wonder how much run he will get.
This game will come down to each team's ability to hit shots, and I think the Wizards have the edge here. Beal and Webster are lights out shooters, and John Wall should be able to penetrate and kick and get these guys open shots. I don't expect Gortat and Nene to have much of an impact in this one, due to the Pistons strong defensive frontcourt.
Seraphin and Harrington off the bench need to make an impact tonight for the Wizards to pull out the victory. Seraphin had a great game a week ago vs these Pistons, getting the better of Drummond and causing him to get visibly frustrated. Al Harrington adds a spark to the offense with his versatile offensive game as a stretch 4. The Pistons are strong down low, but I question their ability to stretch out and cover a guy like Al Harrington who can nail an open 3.
These teams are very equal, and the line reflects that. I think the Wizards backcourt advantage will be enough for them to pull out the win. Both teams are incorporating new players, which requires an adjustment period. I expect that it will take a few games for Jennings and Smith to really start mesh with the rest of the team.

Thanks for the insight, i assume you like the bet even more w/o Jennings out?
Will Bynum and Chauncey Billups will start in the Pistons' backcourt for Wednesday's season opener.
Brandon Jennings (mouth) is out and Rodney Stuckey (finger) may be a game-time decision, so Mo Cheeks will roll with his two healthy veterans. Rookies Peyton Siva and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will round out the backcourt rotation if Stuckey isn't able to suit up.

I wish i had known that actually. I wasn't aware he is out. I like Will Bynum a lot. He is a better point guard and basketball player than Jennings. He makes things happen out there. But Jennings being out hurts their depth, so this doesn't change my opinion a whole lot. Peyton Siva is simply not a good basketball player. Very turnover prone.

This is a great spot to back the Wiz. They are really coming together as a team right now with the emergence of John Wall as the catalyst. No one on the Bucks will be able to guard him. Beal is a tough loss but they make up for it with the outside shooting of Webster and Ariza. The two bigs Nene and Gortat are both playing at a high level and will have the edge over the Bucks inexperienced frontcourt. The Wizards bench is a big issue going forward but it won't matter tonight.

I like the Wizards to win tonight in Detroit. Pistons have been struggling and searching for their identity. The Wizards have finally found stability on the second unit, with Nene coming off the bench to facilitate the offense. The Pistons had owned this series, winning all four matchups in 2012 and the first in 2013, but the tide has turned.
