its a disgrace for him to take a cut so they can land another top player and deal again with all the bullshit talk that someone else won him the title.

kobe is still top 5 pyaer in the nba and deserves a max contract for the next 2-3 year minimum.

You're right Kobe. Why should the Lakers be able to afford another player that could help you get your next championship? Better to make sure your pockets are lined!  Lord knows, you haven't made a frickin dime since you were 18, now have you?

Let's review a couple of other players some idiots think Kobe is better than..........

    • M. Jordan-for years took less than face value for Bulls before finally getting a max contract.
    • LeBron-took LESS to go to Miami, to win not one.........
There are only two things Kobe cares about-money, and the ball. And he ain't parting with EITHER any time soon.

Remember, like Kobe says-you can't spell team without ME..........

Of course he said that. Why wouldn't he? If he had said that he would take the cut, he wouldn't be able to negotiate garbage. It's pretty obvious this a bluff to get the money. Kobe wants titles, i'm pretty sure the money comes second for him now.

maybe he should be like lebron and buy his next ring.. ( take a pay cut)

any player would want to have max money.. just depends on the player and what they are willing to do...Lebron took less money knowing that when time comes next yr I do believe.. he will soak miami or some other team for max money.. to think that him or other players arent gonna soak teams is plain dumb... all teams all star players say this...

what else should he or any one else say.. give me the least u can and ill play til I pull a ham or sprain my ankle

Then Dirk Nowitzki must be dumb.

[Quote: ]"At this point of my career, it's all about competing and winning," Nowitzki said Thursday after an event to promote AT&T's "It Can Wait" program, which urges people not to text and drive. "It's not about money. Obviously, Cuban took care of me for a long, long time. I always tried to pay him back by hard playing and being here for this franchise, so I don't think we're going to fight over money. I want to compete over these last couple of years. That's going to be the goal."[/Quote]

Sucks to be a Lakers fan for the next few years with this guy dragging it out.

Well said. Some guys just never get it.
Sucks to be a Lakers fan for the next few years with this guy dragging it out.

So he is more concerned with being paid his market value than leaving money available  and having a more rounded/ better team?  Pretty ignorant considering the amount of money he has made.  The team won't be able to fill out a good enough roster if he considers that more important.

You are exactly right.  Why would you say, a year before your contract is up, that you plan on taking less money?  Than you have a lot less leverage when negotiations start; the players union and your agent would be talking a lot of smack to you as well.  Who knows what will happen, but these comments are being taken more serious than what was really said if you listen to the actual interview.

Kobe is not only a player....He is a brand, despite who the Lakers cn pull in through max contracts. If the Kobe takes a cut and they bring in some help, guess what?....WINNING still won't be guaranteed, AT ALL.

On the other hand, the Lakers WILL make guaranteed money from the "Kobe brand" no matter what happens win or lose. Lakers know this, Kobe knows this, and this is why he will negotiate in this manner.

If I'm Kobe, i'm not going be exploited for a situation that has no guarantees (winning the title). Kobe is still a top 5 league player not to mention. But again, I would probably not want to take the pay cut considering that what he brings to the table for the Buss family in terms of $$$ generated by the Laker brand. There are others who could bring in dollar, but it has to be understood, that Kobe is the face of the franchise. Should he be playing for what other all-stars are getting paid? All-stars come a dime a dozen, even future hall-of-famers....but a player like Kobe comes only once in a lifetime.

Top 5 player means nothing if he can't win. Let me know if he alone can beat the rest of the league on his own.

And yes, Lakers should resign Kobe for another 10 years on a max contract since he can bring in so much money and can win the championship by himself.

    Kobe being "exploited"

Laker "brand" will not suffer in 2013-14 season as THEY ARE ALREADY SOLD OUT.

Now, if you think Kobass taking up 58% of the cap space is a way to sign players, you are in line for a very rude awakening.............

Look at Dirk. He gave the Mavs a discount and still cant get anyone to come play with him. And he is considered a much better teammate than Kobe. Taking less money don't really make much sense.

As for LeBron, he took less (his sacrifice) so the team could attract some additional players. However, its not much less. And its still more net money than he would have got if he signed with New York.

They wouldn't do it, but the smartest thing at this point would be to amnesty this guy and tank this season. Rebuild, restock, and get ready for 14-15. This was a great era for he Lakers. They have been relevant since 1996 with the signing of Shaq. Even before then they really only had a couple rebuilding years following Showtime. This is a top class organization and they will find a way to win again.

you guys ever heard of bird rights? we can spend our 55 million in cap space on all new players next year and still give kobe a max deal and sign pau because we have both their bird rights meaning cap room doesn't apply when signing them. so please explain why would kobe take a paycut? especially when he is the main reason Time Warner Cable is paying the lakers 150 million/year to exclusive lakers game broadcast.
