Was True Detective the best show ever?

Lots of hype. Tough company with The Sopranos, etc. HBO and the like have an advantage because they can have language, nudity, and other adult themes that make for more powerful watching.

I have watched every episode like 5 times. This show just took over my brain.I would proclaim that it was the best one season show ever, or best first season of any show.Tough to compare it to longer running shows.The one season format is so unique. Like you stated, Sopranos,Breaking Bad and I want to see where Game of Thrones ends up.What I do know is T.D. was f'in awesome.

How about this: Best TV character?

Walter White

Rustin Cohle

Tony Soprano

Omar Little

Tyrion Lannister

Another advantage for pay cable stations; no commercials.

the wire and breaking bad still way ahead for me. hard to compare a series that went 8 episodes to those that went 5+ seasons

Matthew McConaughey already said he will NOT be back for a 2nd season. personally the "jumping around in time" drove me NUTS kind of like the movie Cloud Atlas. NO way the "best show ever"

Can't compare a one season show to the others like The Wire or BB. The season was amazing though and doesn't get much better.

I really liked it...i watched every episode twice. i wouldn't say best show ever but in the top 10 for me.
The new season will be totally different story,actors everything.

I really liked the dialogue. Especially liked McC's character. Was disappointed in the ending. Having said that.......overall I enjoyed the show.

Best ever?  Not for me. No chance.

I have to agree with you.  I like the general idea of having the two detectives look back at the case, but the frequency in which they jumped back forth with flashbacks/flash forwards...  It almost felt like it was an interruption rather then helping the story move along.  At least that's how I felt.  Just when things were getting good, they stall.  Over and over.  It got frustrating.

In the end I liked it but it was nothing extraordinary.  Interesting story with a solid cast and some interesting dialogue.

they should make walter white a walker on the walking dead and he is so smart he has ability to control the dead and make em smarter, lol

Tough because it was only one season. I will say that was hands down that was some of the craziest stuff I have ever seen on TV. Child sacrifice, Cohles view on the human race and the carcosa at the yellow kings house.

The jumping around was sweet, especially how they meet up in present day so anything could happen.
