The Godfather Epic on HBO January 23rd

The Godfather Epic aka The Godfather Saga (1977) is the two original Godfather movies broken down into three parts in chronological order with Part One being all the scenes from Godfather II with Robert De Niro as young Vito Corleone, Part Two the original Godfather with Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone and Part Three with Al Pacino as Michael Corleone now Godfather in Godfather II. I think it is THE most complete telling of the story and has a lot of added "out takes" from the original showings. it play again on the HBO-Signature channel Saturday January 23rd @ 6:00pm pacific time. as THE greatest movie EVER made (along with Citizen Kane) I obviously rate it     of four. does NOT show very often in this format and I strongly recommend recording it

Thanks for the heads up Rink.  Surprisingly enough, I never seen either movie in its entirety.  Setting it on my DVR.

I recorded the whole freeking 7 hours 15 minutes yesterday when it was on HBO but for me the Best part of the movie is Part One with
Robert De Niro as young Vito and the late Bruno Kirby as young Clemenza which runs just 1 hour 15 minutes. LOT of "out takes" from the original added from when Vito, now the Godfather, returns to Corleone in Sicily which really completes the story. will probably record just that portion next Saturday

Favorite movie of all-time is GF2. First 2 movies are complete masterpieces. It remains a mystery to me how Pacino doesn't win Best Actor for GF2. 

It's available on the HBO app so you can watch it anytime on roku or other device

I am tired of trying to teach what is the best cinema of all times.
If you consider  yourself a student of classic films and dont regard this  as the best  picture of all times, [1 or 2] you are kidding yourself.

interesting going thru different lists to see WHO rates WHAT movie as "greatest of all time" personally I say three way tie between the two Godfathers and Citizen Kane closely followed by Casablanca, On The Waterfront and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The Green Mile is high on my list too

IMDb says original Godfather #1 but has Godfather II as #13 and Citizen Kane #8. they rank The Shawshank Redemption #2 and Schindler's List #3

API says Citizen Kane followed by Casablanca with the original Godfather 3rd. they have Godfather II @ #32?

the TV movie channel AMC lists the two Godfathers together as #1 with Shawshank #2 and the Star Wars "film series" #3 with Citizen Kane 9th

The Godfather Saga playing again HBO-Z channel Friday January 29th @ 6:00pm pacific time

The Godfather Epic playing again on HBO2-East Wednesday February 3rd @ 2:00pm pacific time

Saga is the made for TV chronological presentation of the movie SO a lot of violence and "foul language" was edited out. it ran 7 hours 15 minutes

Epic was also a chronological presentation for video release BUT with much of the edited material back in. it ran 6 hours 25 minute

The HBO showing contained most of the known deleted scenes, thereby lengthening the runtime of the Epic from its video release to 7 hour 15 minutes. it appears that BOTH presentations are now one and the same

It's really difficult to rank a movie "The best movie of all time" because it's so damn subjective.

I came to this conclusion in regard to greatest movies.
And of course this is open to debate.

The greatest actors for me make the greatest movies.
The ones you list are anchored by guys like Jack and Orson Wells.
Who can debate that ? JDepp and Jack Black are not in the same
category unless you also enjoy working at Subway and play warlords all day.

No one competes with Peck, Garfield or Newman.
You dont need any background in film to realize what true masterpieces are all about.Its all about actors knowing how to be vulnerable. There dangerous to be around.
The make you feel like there not acting . They are that person.

NO truer statement EVER. you can add "old guys" Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Marlon Brando to your list along with "my generation" Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Tom Hanks and Gary Oldman
