saw it in 3D at Imax, only way to see a movie nowadays.
As a stand- alone movie, great entertainment but a disappointing renewal of the franchise, same death star and father son plot, non intimidating new villain, some new characters but abrams played it safe. I'm hoping the 2nd movie will be darker like "empire" was.

Saw it in 3D, it was not heavy on the 3D effects, which was ok with me.
The movie was good, not great but good. I agree about it being in the top 3, but then I think 1-2-3 were garbage and Disney for sure played it safe knowing if this wasnt solid public fare it would endanger billions of future dollars, likely hundreds of billions.

Long time Star Wars fan....... I was bitterly disappointed. Disney just copied "A New Hope" only to disguise it with Windows dressing:
* Plans embedded in Droids in both movies
* Both had Orphans fleeing a desert planet unaware they are rich in Midi-chlorians compositions
* Outrageously large sphere-like weapons capable of of destroying planets in both
* Same weapons are susceptible to destruction because of small vulnerability that leads to its core.
* Both movies had bars filled with strange creatures from all corners of he universe.
* Our heroes must flee the bar because the Empire (or First Order) have put a bounty on them and therefore have been informed of their whereabouts and move in.
Dejected...Disappointed...Horrified...Agitated

Rink,
If you are a Star Wars tragic, go and see it for piece of mind. I have not told you everything that happens.
What they have done is re-told "A New Hope" for a younger generation that don't know sh*t from mud so they continue buying merchandise.
I saw a young kid with a "Kylo Ren" shirt and "First Order" written on it.
Kyle Ren and First Order myass. It will always be "Darth Vader", "The Dark Side" and "The Empire".
They didn't even show how the "First Order" evolves. They just give you this "rushed" storyline that you quickly put together and you are off.
First Order !? Come on Man !!!
