review: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

If you are unfamiliar with Wes Anderson’s work, then you are missing out on a truly unique sense of humor. I have recommended his films to people only to have them come back to me and say, “I didn’t get the humor.” I then start talking about the plot with them and before we know it, we are both laughing like crazy. In other words, this humor sometimes takes awhile to sink in. When I first watched this film or Rushmore, I didn’t laugh out loud much. However, upon reflection the brilliant sense of humor is undeniable. This is a clever, well-acted, well-directed film with true charm and style. Watch it… then think about it… and then laugh.
