Requiem for a Dream

(Five out of Five Stars)

OK… this film is, in my opinion, downright jaw dropping! I don’t even want to get into the poignant subtext, but just know that it is NOT for the weak stomach and NOT a good one to rent when you just want to relax and zone out to a nice movie. Aronofsky is one of our modern masters of film and he delivers here. Simply brilliant.

I agree again man.  I'm assuming your Pi review is the one by Aronofsky and that was great, this is great, but I kind of got pissed off by The Fountain.  Definately had some great visuals, some great moments, and it definately made you think, but it wasnt as good as these.  Since you liked Pi, I highly reccommed to you a small little indie mindfuck of a film called Primer.  Check it out.

I will check out Primer.... thanks

And I understand your view of The Fountain. Mine was the same at first viewing. Then, being DRIVEN by my love for his other work, I did something I hardly ever do. I watched it again immediately. If you liked Pi and this one so much, I recommend another watch of the Fountain. While you watch, try and put yourself in the mindset that EVERYTHING that you see in the fantasy sequences are subconscious representations of the physical scenes that you see. That is to say that it is a short story and only tells a half length story, but becomes full length by showing the same story with a sub and super conscience version. At least that’s what I got… and … seeing that… I was obviously BLOWN AWAY. Then again, I could be wrong and it could just be a case of an otherwise superb artist putting out a failed attempt. Happens all the time. Regardless, it obviously made me think.

BTW... just found Primer on netflix and liked the preview. And, as a bonus, it is an instant watch. Will try and watch it in the next day or two.

Thanks for the recommendation

good luck understanding it.  for most people, it takes repeated viewing, or trips to the imdb forum.  I dont mind that though, I dont like my movies always spoon-fed to me

THANK YOU for this recommendation!!! What a fine film. Yes, I think that I would benefit from at least one more viewing, but I agree with you... I like that aspect quite a bit.
