review: O Brother, Where Art Thou?

(Four out of Five Stars)

This may not be the Coen brothers movie to start with if you haven’t seen any of their work before (Raising Arizona or The Big Lebowski are probably more accessible) but if you know and love the Coen brothers like I do, then by all means check this one out as well! Also, for some extra laughs, it is worth giving yourself a refresher on Homer’s Odyssey as the film is comically based on the plot structure of the classic epic. A funny flick…

Pretty good but they set the bar so high for themselves with Raising Arizona it's hard not to see this as somewhat disappointing by their standards.

The Odyssey is worth reading even if you have no intention of watching this film or have seen it and hated it. I highly recommend Richard Lattimore's translation.
