Mysterious Skin
(Five out of Five Stars)
I was a Gregg Araki fan already, but this film is simply one of the most affecting films that I have ever seen. It is impossible to watch this fine work without being moved by its candid portrayal of the defense mechanisms that we all employ in order to deal with the pain of life and, in this case, the severity of abuse. Without judgment, Araki once again tells a human story with sometimes difficult but always vivid situational realism and with better acting than his other films. This is NOT a film for those looking for a light comedy or even a Hollywood type drama… this is a stern glance at the scarification caused by abuse.
