wasn't a bad movie but for me, just an average tale about a bomb disposal unit in Iraq, apart from the subject matter I dont see why this was worthy of winning so many oscars or is there some angle I'm missing?

The biggest travesty with that film, which I did enjoy, was that it was BEST SOUND DESIGN. There wasn't a sound effect used that you can't by on CD at your local music store.
- what a joke!

Very good movie but don't see why it won so many awards. If a guy directed this film I highly doubt it would have gotten the awards it did, but Liberal Hollywood saw a subplot with Katheryn Bigelow going up against her ex in James Cameron for awards.
What made this movie so good to me was it was different than most war movies I have seen. I have never really saw one about bomb disposal which gave this a nice change of pace.
***SPOILER ALERTS*** Anyone else find it kind of funny that the director was a female and we never really got any straightforward answers at the end? I thought there were some loose ends in this one such as did the woman end up staying with the guy after he did another tour? Did the black guy end up getting a kid? Did the guy recover from the gun shot? We never really got to see how life was like after the war for the other two guys.

You would think the voters wouldn't be stupid enough to vote this movie in just because of the ex-wife factor, but jeeesss..........this movie was not better than Avatar, and Avatar was not that great a movie. Great effects and CGI, but as a movie, not that great.
But better than Hurt Locker by a mile
