Randle McMurphy in The One Who Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest will probably always be the consensus Jack Nicholson #1 roll in his career BUT I think that Navy Signalman 1st Class Billy "Badass" Buddusky in The Last Detail is a close 2nd

I'm not drinking the Kool Aid on this retiring business.  If it's true that's sad but actors love any press and if I were a betting man I would say this man will come off the death bed and play again. He may be frustrated now and depressed but acting and the glory is all he knows. I say he is back unless this retiring business is a excuse for a some severe illness and he can't physically do it.
