Fantastic sleeper gambling movie

Question

Owning Mahowny, indie movie barely released in theatres,

Philip seymour Hoffman is amazing in this, anyone's who's got in over their head, chased losses etc (so pretty much everyone here

) will identify with many of the scenes here.

What I could not identify with though is that Mohowny didn't seem to enjoy gambling at all. He seemed more like a prisoner or a slave to it.

True story I heard. How about The Gambler with James Caan? I remember it was painful to see him sit in the bathtub, listening to the Laker game, and to Jerry West missing all 3 freethrows on a 3 to make 2, broadcasted by Chick Hearn. I haven't seen that movie in awhile though.

[/Quote]you couldnt be more wrong henry, at the end mohowny is asked how he rated the happiest he's ever been in life compared to gambling if gambling was rated 100, i think he rated life as 20!!!and yes eddie, lots of scenes comparable to the gambler, i remember one scene in that movie where caan had all his teams winning at half time and thought he was already at the bank, we know how that one ends......

Henry-Lilly · Answer

No reason to be a dickhead, Mr Buttocks. So, he was asked about happiness at the end by a court ordered shrink and you base his happiness while gambling off of his answer? He was a miserable fuck. He didn't cap any games. He was just addicted to action and didn't give a fuck about winning. It's like drinking...if you are out celebrating the weekend it's a lot of fun, but if you can't function or deal with day to day life without a drink, it is hell. This man was in hell. Perhaps you identified with the miserable fuck up, but I didn't.
