eh, I hate that movie. It seemed stupid when Mcconaughey was shocked that DiNero told him to make up the money in basketball, with March Madnees, and will continue to build up the bankroll on baseball season. Give me a fuckin break. Obviously there are more sports than football. Not once in that fuckin movie did they mention the most important part about sports gambling: the line movements and the juice.
If you want to see a REAL gambling movie, watch Rounders. It captures the essence of gambling. It's not about sports betting, but it is the best gambling movie I have ever seen.

i wouldn't consider this movie a true gambling flick. it was entertaining, but it just showed you the scumbags that call themselves professional handicappers will do anything to con compulsive gamblers into thinking they can buy a winner when in reality these pricks know nothing more than the next guy.
and i agree that rounders was an excellent movie.

The hook is Pacino...................when you found out he was The Devil in The Devil's Advocate................didn't you say "I don't care if this is a Keanu Reeves movie!?" The scene where he starts singing like Sinatra is classic!

Rounders did rule and I agree Twofer is overrated.
I can name one scene everyone in here should love though: When they needed to cover like a 7 point spread or something like that and their team was up by a little more than that.
Other team has the ball, with time left for one last play. No shot of winning. Instead of kneeling they go for the Hail Mary. They make it! And it destroys all of them.
They handicapped it well but still lost, and lost on something meaningless. What meant nothing to all the sports fans watching meant everything to them. To me that scene is the essence of sports gambling.
You have to admit that Pacino handing out his card at a Gambler's Anonymous meeting was also classic. "You never know when you might go into remission!"
Other than that one brilliant scene and other great moment, the movie was crap. I hated the angle about Pacino's wife and his insecurity. I hated the way he guaranteed his picks to win. We all know how absurd that is. I hated the angle about changing the main character to sell picks. And the coin flip finale was very anticlimactic. But it did have those two bits, which is more than a lot of movies have going for them.

Agreed. It was one of the very few times that someone, in this case Pacino, got me to overlook and not hate that Keanu Reeves was in that movie.
Thought Reeves was still a box though. He had everything right in front of him, and that drag of a wife just held him back every single time that his character was about to have a lot of fun.

Steel, that movie was so unrealistic and not how anything at all in that industry goes.
On the lighter note, did you notice how funky Renee Russo is starting to look? Her jaw line has gotten so masculine these days. Not against surgery to enhance youthfull appearance for women, but in here case, it shows in that movie that perhaps not a good idea. Had just watched both '"In The Line Of Fire" and 'Ransom" , soon after....."Two For The Money"..., well Renee really looked kinda odd to me in 'Money".
I guess I always liked her, so I noticed it maybe a little more.

Rounders is one of those movies that I can watch anytime and not get tired of it. Usually background noise as I'm doing other things while it's on, but nonetheless. ...........
