As far as the payroll, yes they are not breaking any rules, this conversation has been going on since i started on this site in 06, the same people talking about that same shit. The shitty part is it will never stop on this site and the hatred for the Yanks will never stop. The Yankees YES network rakes in hundreds of millions of dollars, the Yankees spend money to make there fans happy and try to win every year. There are not many franchises that give back to there fans like the Yankees. Do we overpay for some players, yes, i will not deny that nobody will. But if you are preventing an elite player from going to a competitor then you have to do what you have to do...

Jeter will get a lot...but it won't equal his year to year rate this year. Pettitte is probably retiring. Nick Johnson's $5.5 mill comes off the books. Pettitte + Johnson are $17 million right there. Sparky,I can't see the Yanks giving Jeter any substantial increases in years or cash.His age and production don't warrant that.I think they are smart enough to see the end is closer than far away for Jeter.

qball i mentioned it in another thread, you have absolutely nothing to be upset over. It's common practice for the average mlb team to spend about 10% of its revenues on player salaries. yanks earn roughly 2 billion in revs, pirates give or take 300, etc. Since there is no salary cap it's the haves and have nots. you have nothing to be mad about, you have to expect that the team in the biggest market with the highest population density and the most disposable income will sign the best players. you need to know what you're talking about before just getting angry without a cause.

Of course...because what holds the Red Sox up are Lowell and Drew. But then they'll add Werth or Crawford plus VMart again? They'll pick up Ortiz' option. They'll be in the Yankees' shoes. Money coming off the books=more to spend.
