I like to play underdogs/plus money for most of the first month. Not much data early plus some of the good teams start slow. Lets have some fun.
Pirates/Brewers: I love what the Pirates did this offseason. They improved the offense where they could, which should help. Brandon Lowe, Ozuna & O'Hearn were the upgrades. I really like the young SP they have. I think they could hit over 80 wins this year. I am taking a shot with them first game with Skenes. He had a nice tune up playing in WBC so I feel like he should be more prepared here. Pirates have seen Freddy Peralta from his Brewers days. Could be a tricky game for him as it is first start with a new team. Bryan Reynolds has the best numbers off Peralta than any other Pirate (.385 avg, 1.031 ops). I will be on Pirates ML (+100)
White Sox/Brewers: Yes, the White Sox will still be bad, but the books like them to improve from their 60 win season. In 2024 they won 41, and jumped to 60 last season. Now their win total is set at 67.5. Shane Smith is coming off a decent season and will be getting the opening day start. This is where I am taking a shot against a Brewers team I like to regress from last season. The Brewers are always sneaky and do so well at developing players. I have concerns with them this year. Pithing could take a step back. Misiorowski started really well last year, then seemed to fall off a bit to finish the season. The talent is there with him, but this early in the season I am taking a shot with the underdog. I also really like the White Sox add with Munetaka Murakami. He should bring some pop. I will be on White Sox ML (+160)
